I have just been advised that my purchase has been cancelled as the item is not in stock.
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN FOUR DAYS.
I have received messages from the seller saying that the item is indeed in stock (thereby sabotaging my chances of purchasing the same item from a different seller)
I have received a full refund (on both occasions) but someones birthday doesn't come twice.
Can a seller keep advertising items that they simply do not have and what course of action can I take against this sort of pathetic customer service?

Report them to eBay? Assuming that is the venue you purchased through.
Buy from a seller who isn't a bulklister using publisher data and has NFI what books they have listed (they don't actually hold stock), much less any idea of what they are?
Support your local bookseller?

some of these sellers keep their listings running whie the get new stock. this is because Ebay use sell through history to keep search place ranking. Ending a listing pending new stock looses this record.
I believe Ebay has brought in a holding state where listing can be put in temporary out of stock mode 9not sure exactlt how itworks. often though with huge stores its too hard to monitor individual listings and out of stock is not picked up ntil processing an order.
This is complicated further when orders are pending payment rather than being processed using immediate payment

Yes, its works both ways.
We just do our best to all get along
and try to be honest and up front about things.
I buy and sell, sometimes things just take time.
Be it out of stock or delays etc.

All Good.
Just Bought it and got it from a real Book Dealer. The Nile can keep flowing along.
Thanks for your comments guys, Happy buying and avoid **bleep** dealers.
