recommended transport from Sydney to Melbourne

I would probably get in the car and drive. Train is another option but can be slow if it's all stations. I believe airfares are quite cheap between Sydney and Melbourne, so that could be an option for you too.

I wouldn't recommend it, Melbourne is too cold and wet. By the time the train system is somewhat working down Mexico way everyone will already have Star Trek teleporters.
