While I agree with the fact that you agree to the postage when you buy or bid no matter the price the fact reamins that the expectation is that $50 worth of postage & packaging & handling would be supplied. In this particular instance I dont believe the Buyer received a service commensurate with the charge.
Now unless this Seller had to drive a long distance to simply post the item and they have taken time & cost for travel into consideration, I believe the OP has every right to feel upset and ripped off.

as I said if the postage was lumped in with the price we wouldn't b having this discussion. It's not right to complain after the fact.
would we be having this discussion if the item price was $1.00 and there was $415.00 in postage?

I have always purchased taking into consideration the total price including delivery. At one time ebay used to lose out if postage was inflated and the product sold cheaply as they only collected fees on the item price, now they collect them on the delivery cost as well it makes absolutely no difference at all.
If it was a high priced item then a sensible seller would have added signature on delivery and extra cover and to send something like that safely I should imagine it would take a fair amount of packaging materials and time both of which the seller is entitled to incluse in the delivery cost.
The time to complain about the postage was before you bid, it was clearly stated and you got the item safely delivered at a total cost that you were aware of and willing to pay.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

Hbh- your point here keeps clanging in my head.
I typically list item + post (standard letter, small parcel or satchel) with maybe 30-50c on top for packaging, b/c I've agreed with other posters here on previous topics, that there IS no free postage and we shouldn't be cowed into listing as such.
But sometimes I'm really not sure what an item will squeeze in at (eg a small package- depends where it's going) so I guess. If I'm way out or someone bulk-buys I refund the difference, but for small amounts I can see why not all sellers would.
Then of course, what's a small amount? I'd be miffed at $50 for $17 postage, but then again I would've queried it before buying.
If you list as free post you avoid all this. Buyers can't feel slighted b/c their post cost was less than they were charged, and that's no small thing these days it seems. I don't really want to jam everything in the item price and list free post but I can see why people do.

Every time one of the overcharge threads come up I have another think about changing my listings to include postage on each item so the buyer wouldn't know they are paying 2 lots of 7.50 included in the price if they bought 2 items.

Most lure sellers. $10.60 postage
Actual cost $2.80 postage.
eBay are the thieves.
Recommended postage cost or what others are charging.

1) you have regurgitated a 9 year old thread
2) nothing to do with eBay
3) if you weren't happy with postage costs, why did you buy?
