why am I begin charge import duties on 8.00 items

what is going on i have boght 2 times this month fromm usa both times i have being charge import duties

It is the GST component that is now being levied on all low value items from overseas.  It has been happenint since 1st July.

If you are buying from sellers using the Global Shipping it is called Import Charges but is really the GST plus the charges added by Pitney Bowes to collect it.

This has been discussed on the news for about three years prior to this, how could you miss it?
