why does ebay allow multiple listings of the same item often a small low cost item, this spoils browsing as you have go past page after page of the same thing

Why? Because ebay does not limit who can sell what on ebay thats why. How would you feel if ebay refused to allow you to list an item simply because there were "too many" already listed? Yes it is frustrating when browsing but hey thats part of online buying.

Sellers cannot have more than one BIN listing of exactly the same item however they can list every colour, size, quantity or other variation as a different listing. Sellers may have as many auctions running for identical items as they wish however that is not a very sensible way to list as instead of bidding higher an interested buyer will just move on to the firat one without bids.

PJ - that has now changed. You cannot have identical items running at auction at the same time. The rule is now only 1 BIN listing and 1 Auction listing for identical items.
