why is ebay the only auction you dont have to register as a bidder ?? every other auction you have register so its fair?? if you made bidder register and pay a fee (taken off first bid) this would stop both snipe and shill bidding . why dont ebay do something to stop it??? is it because they dont care about buyers as long as they make there money . Also how can ebay claim to have fair auction when they have a count down clock that is not the same for buyers as they dont control internet speed some users maybe upto 10 second behind. ebay are aware of this problem but have fail to do anything about it.

I L O V E sniping!
Nothing better than a well time manual SNIPE!
A good snipe makes buying on eBay more like a sport than a stupid shopping addiction

May I ask what other online auctions require you to register?
Snipe bids eliminate shill bidding, if everyone sniped it would wipe out the shillers.
All you need to do is to submit the maximum price you are prepared to pay for the item, and do it early if you know you have poor internet. That's not eBay's concern. That's a case of he with the best toys wins.
So put your max bid in, if someone outbids you - they wanted it more than you did. simple as that.
One bid and no nibbles - that's the way to go.

Everyone on ebay is registered......what do you think you do when you give ebay all your details such as real name, address and phone number and in turn are given your ID.
If your internet connection is too slow for sniping you can always join a sniping service...there are a number of free ones around.
How do you propose that ebay should take different internet speeds into account?

every bidder on ebay is Registered, and many sellers, will only accept bids from Registered AND Verified bidders.
snipe bidding is good for all.

If everyone on eBay is registered, then sellers don't make a choice to accept bids 'only from registered and verified bidders'. eBay ensures that before you can even place a bid.
I just tried bidding without logging in - eBay then asked me to log in before I could place the bid. You can't bid if you aren't logged in. You can't be logged in until you have an eBay account. Simple.
Although this thread is old enough to have come out of the ark your comment deserve a reply.
Firstly Putney mentioned registered and VERIFIED bidders.....you can be registered without being verified.
As well as that, you can bid as a guest on ebay.....you do not have to have a registered account.
Take it from another long time member....Putney does know what she is talking about.
