It appears that 'missing item specifics' has been an ongoing problem since at least 2014, judging by previous threads that came up when I typed in my heading.
Some of the item specifics supposedly missing in my listings (and nearly every one of my ~500 supposedly has missing item specifics) are hilarious e.g. a book I have listed that has absolutely nothing to do with cooking is asking that I include the 'regional cuisine' in its item specifics!
But on to my actual question...
I sell a fair bit of clothing, and two of the specifics that mystify me in this category is the difference between 'fabric type' and 'material'. I always include in my description the actual material, and also put it in the 'material' item specifics box, but can anyone tell me what is the relevance of 'fabric type'?

Still don't know how to deal with 'fabric type'.

I am really not an expert, but apparently for example the fabric type of jeans is denim and the material is cotton. So I think the material is more generic, for example cotton, and with the material you can create different fabric types (denim, but also other fabrics)? Try looking at what other sellers write in their listings too.

Agree with Papermoon. For instance I put the material as cotton viscose linen polyester wool etc and the Fabric type as things like Jersey, denim, satin, georgette, etc.
So for instance polyester can be made into all sorts of fabric, and a fabric like jersey can be made from polyester spandex, viscose, rayon, cotton etc. Satin can be silk or polyester, denim may or may not contain elastane, etc.

Doesn't make any sense that her profile doesn't show as an ebay employee on our boards, but just a Community Member like the rest of us.
I thought the same, I have posted over on the US asking for confirmation, but so far no reply from the eBay staff, just other members, I will pop in now and then and check. I could PM ella on the US boards coz I know she is real, but I feel wierd doing that.

I am so sorry for hijacking your topic gumleaf 🙂 I am just intrigued

But if you click on their feedback and both accounts go to the same eBay profile, doesn't it mean they are the same person? Pondering about one of the riddles of life just after 4 am....

It might work for something like jeans, where the fabric type is fairly obvious - denim - but I cannot see it working for most of the clothing I sell. For example, many T-shirts are made of cotton polyester - what is the fabric type for that? Or if something is made of linen viscose, what is the fabric type?

I recently listed an item with the fabric make up of viscose cotton polyester elastane - what fabric type is this? I cannot tell if a fabric type is 'jersey' - what makes it so? As far as I am concerned, if I include the fabric(s)/material(s) listed on the label, I will leave fabric type blank.

Gumleaf_goodies, maybe you can join a message board for textiles, so they can help you identify the fabrics...
Kat, yes, there should be a logo and some clarification would be nice... As I said yesterday, and as some people on the US board also said, it is probably just a glitch of the new board. Obviously they should fix it, particularly after this thread.
Apparently *madison had asked her here, but I cannot find his post...

Until ebay make this item specific compulsory , I am going to leave fabric type blank - all too much trouble. I give enough info in my description anyway.
