morning all,
Linda, that's not such a silly idea what Mon said, we had a couple of ladies, who were over 60, and had to go onto New Start thru Centerlink, but if they did x number of Community Volunteer work, they didnt need to actually ''look for work''
Talk to Centerlink about it, I'm not sure exactly what was involved, just that they had to fill in a form every 2 weeks, signed by OpShop Manager..
((big hugs)), all will work out ok..

Thats my dream job to sit out the back with my laptop and price for oppies in return for some treasures that I could sell for cash.
Alot of people got jobs there by volunteering there.

Last one started freezing especially while on the net.
The main reasons a computer freezes is:
A corrupt Windows Registry.
The drivers are corrupt or outdated,(or video card).
The computer is infected with a virus or malware.
Hard drive or file system errors.
Add-ons can also stop working,(you'll generally get a warning when one is not responsive).
Not enough storage space for temporary files.
A friend computer was real slow and kept freezing,so I had a look and he had over 7 million temporary files,(I've never come across so many before):O
Got rid of them, defraged it and it's running well again now,:-D

What a bummer Miss Linda, there are times when life sucks, this seems to be one of them.
While I have no doubt you will be able to find paid employment, and you would be very good at anything that you "put your mind to", it somehow seems wrong that at your time of life that you have to.
It is just so not fair.

Some suggestions for part time work for Miss Linda without knowing your qualifications.
The Post Office
Any school or TAFE as an assistant
any motel or hotel as a cleaner or kitchenhand
any nursing home as an assistant or a cleaner.
any shop that has part time people.
I am sure others can help with suggestions too.
Good luck

Try and find a sit-down job. I'd hate to have to go cleaning!
What about clerical assistant somewhere. Library officer? Help desk somewhere? Answering telephones?
I'm not much help. Sorry.

The Government is not making me to volunteer work, but the pension for a widow is only $200 a week and if I want to survive I will have to get a job. For the last 18 years I have been Les' Carer, so, not a lot of skills. I am going to do the food handlers course, that will qualify me for a kitchen hand job, trouble is, at the end of the day I am 59 and things are wearing out, LOL, hips not the best, but I know I can work a few hours a week. Cannot get aged pension until I am 65, so will be working for a few years yet. Thanks for the suggestions, have taken them all on board.
Hynes I have been following your fight on FB, you are doing a great job, keep it up girl!

It is dreadful, the difference between a Carers/ Disability/Age pension and a widows pension/Newstart. After years of the stress of caring for a disabled/ill loved one, and saving the govt untold $ by doing do, women in their late fifties/sixties have to either return to work ot take an income cut of over $100 per week ($689 + extras down to $485 per fortnight).
So not only are they dealing with the grief of losing their loved one, they also have to adjust to major financial losses. If they have ongoing debts (like mortgage/car payments) it is impossible. It used to be that many of these women could claim disability pensions for their own varying health issues, but the govt has cracked down on eligibilty for people with mental health and muscular/skeletal issues that used to qualify them.
So we now have older women, often with things like arthritis and depression, grieving over losing their life partner, being forced onto a much lower income than the already way below the poverty line pension, or having to somehow find work, usually after being out of the workforce for decades in some cases.
It is truly appalling ๐

This is work and plenty around here where you go into elderly or infirm peoples houses and do their washing and cleaning and take them shopping. My friend does this and her clients love her as they are fairly isolated. I dont know if you would have to go to tafe and do a carers certificate . On the other hand you may want something totally different.
If you register as unemployed then they send you to job people who are supposed to help you. Maybe there would be someone who could help you with your finances.
