Hello everyone, I'm trying to find out more about a ring I have, but there doesn't seem to be much
info on Platinum Marks.
Pics below....any help would be much appreciated.
Trash or Treasure?

18 ct white gold and platinum shoulders to the settings I would say as a guess. English or Aus not American.
NOT trash, that's for sure.
My engagement ring is 18ct with platinum settings.
I don't know the other mark. Sorry.

I would also suggest white gold band and platinum setting. If the stamp could only be 8ct then American, if it could have been 18ct (ie 1 has worn away) it is very likely Australian made, 1930's. Anne Schofield says in her Australian Jewellery bible that platinum was imported to Australia in the early part of the 20th century and shows several Art Deco style pieces.
The use of platinum in jewellery had become popular in USA particularly in the "platinum blonde" Art Deco / Roaring 20's era; apparently the pure white of a platinum setting shows off diamonds better (does not make them look "yellow"). But it was always expensive compared to gold and so often only the settings (it is much harder and heavier than gold) were made from platinum. During the war years platinum was needed for war work and could not be used in jewellery.
Other marks - no idea. Very often they were simply the style numbers used by individual "jobbing jewellers". Nice ring, definitely not trash.

Thanks, that's a lot more than I knew five minutes ago......Someone else has suggested to me that the ring may be 18ct but the 1 may have worn off....or the band reduced etc, but It doesn't seem that way.
I'm wanting to sell the ring, but don't know enough about Platinum to know what it would be worth. I first needed to just verify if is what it is & what it's worth..
I have another one that for all intents, looks like old gold. Etruscan looking design... here tis....haven't been able to work out what it is or whether the mark is a mark or a fault....it's not magnetic and makes black marks on skin when you rub it on face powder... (McGyver testing method) lol
Not Sure if this is a mark or fault....anyone seen anything like it? The French have unreadable stamps...thought it might be recogniseable by the shape of the mark maybe? It's impressed into the metal & seems deliberate.

I just googled that name & it does bring up gold/platinum jewelers so I'll take another look at their Gold marks...might find the V reference somewhere which will be half the battle won.

If SSwans says its Australian i'd tend to go with that. 🙂

As far as I'm aware the absolute minimum allowed to be hallmarked as gold is 9ct in 'English' areas and 10kt in 'American' areas. You can't have anything hallmarked 8ct. It is possibly a mis-strike

And the other one might just be a hound's head?
If so, maybe Hungarian or Austor/Hungarian.

I meant Austro/Hungarian as in Austria.
