only a jeweler or a gemologist can do that. it would have to be ''tested'' for authenticity, clarity, colour, cut etc.. not possible from a photo

I agree with these comments. Something that may give you an idea as to whether it is worth taking the 2 rings to a jeweller for an appraisal is to look at what the rings are made from. Using a good magnifying glass, can you see any hallmarks (such as silver, sterling or 925) or gold (ct or K) inside the bands? While not a definite answer, it would be unusual to see a gem stone of any real value set into a ring that was not made from a precious metal, particularly if you feel the rings have some age. Gold and silver were not always the expensive metals they are today. It is more likely that you will have gemstones in precious metal but it does not guarantee it. Antique gold jewellery was often set with paste (glass stones.)
