Hello wise folk.
This old Vinolia box has me a little stumped. A web search tells me that vinolia was a soap / shaving soap type of thing.
Neither of which would warrent the need for a box such as this.
There is a small remains of what looks like a ribbon inside the lid towards the bottom - would this of held something and if so, why in the lid?
Anyone got any suggestions?

Vinolia apparently made a large range of toiletries - I think they may still be in business. If you search eBay
Vinolia christmas presents old advert 1894
it shows a number of high quality items - cologne, perfume, pomade, brilliantine, dentifrice - that may have warranted such an elaborate box.

Thank you.
l tried to imagine a lady receiving this wonderful fancy box as a gift. Then her face as she opened it up expecting pearls or perfume....and finding a cake of soap! It would so be a romance buster.
l'll go do a little more digging around on the web for perfumes / toilet water type of items instead of soap.
Cheers and thank you again, its wonderful to be able to ask for others knowledge and to receive it.
