Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can help identify this barrel, keg for me please.
I took it to my local market to sell yesterday, and had lots of questions that I couldn't answer eg origin, what it was used for etc.
I have known it for approx 35 years (where it has sat in my lounge room as an ornament) and my Dad had it prior to that, so I know its history for probably 40 years.
I have taken a few photos to display.
The writing stamped on top and side in black is Y TC or TYC (the Y is in a triangle) Melbourne 2770 36
There is some Asian? writing on the side in red.

You're welcome.
I would use it for the man cave.
Get a piece of thick smoked glass with a bevelled edge to fit inside the top of the barrel sitting on top of some round black foam stoppers so the glass sits flush with the top.
Great for standing around having a drink.

Thankyou I can add extra photos if needed.

Is there a bung for a tap of sorts to be inserted into it? The origin is probably answered in your statement about asian writing on the side.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes there is a hole for the bung, in the middle of the barrel
I am now trying to find out what may have been in it and how old it is. Lots of googling done but cannot find anything.
Someone has suggested saki, or gun powder.
Measurements are 30cm across the top and bottom (wider in the middle) and 60cm height.

Hi kopenhagen5
Thankyou so much for taking the time to find that out for me. I really appreciate it.
Wow! Soy sauce, so maybe not for a man cave after all! Although it is still a very nice barrel.
Thanks again & Regards Linda

Hi Kopenhagen,
I'm a girlie girl, so I will leave that up to someone else.
I will be trying to sell it. I'll use your description of what to do with it.
Thanks again & Regards Linda
