What I've found in August! :-)

Happy Birthday to all the horses, especially to Leonie & Apple's lovely ones.  I hope you get lots of extra carrots today. 😉

Who will be first in with a special find for this month?

that particular carlton ware glaze, the green (and the other colours as well)  seem to wear if they are used much. its good if you can get pieces that have sat in china cabinets since new. my favorite was blue with white polka -dots and stepped heavily gilded handles and rim.

Re: What I've found in August! :-)

Gday, looking for some help for some things I am listing on a friends account who is going through their "little box of life's collected trinkets"

http://museumvictoria.com.au/collections/items/76332/medal-causes-of-variation-in-mankind-cole-s-boo...

no scans yet but it appears to be the EW Cole  aluminium medal as above link circa 1885.

and an eeny weeny teeny little porcelain? dollshouse? vase (19mm approximately base about the size of a one cent piece) that appears handpainted with a japanese/chinese red inscription on the base . I was going to try and scan the bottom mark.

other oddies include

a pizza hut "Dougie" badge... lmao

a Woolworths brass name badge circa 60s

Any ideas

Carlisle's "Australian Historical Medals" (2008) says that "E W Cole issued an extensive medallic series over many years of business, with commemorative, advertising, biblical and prophetic themes." He illustrates the 80th Series issued in 1918 (1st issue 1875) and suggests a value of $35 for silver metal in very fine condition. Mintage of 500 (possibly the same for each issue.)

cheers.... It is the french made one that Des has I made a mistake before and bunged up the US one. There are some on ebay US listed now with holes drilled in them as "coles" rather than  EW Cole

Re: What I've found in August! :-)

The values achieved by the Sold ones may be nearer the money. Though the BINs  look in nice condition (apart from the holes). And they are of course worth what someone will pay. Carlisle suggests bronze ones are worth about $15 more than the silvered ones.
