What are they called and what is their use?

Anyone want to have a guess as to what on earth these are?

Solid wood, hole in the top of each one only goes down 2 inches.
The bigger one is just on 5 inches high, the other is 2.5inches high.
Carved from wood complete with burrs and knots. The bigger one has a fantastic feel to it, smooth and cold like a rock!

What on earth is their use?

Agree with bsal, appear to be decorative and perhaps to hold a few small dried flowers or as said incense.

I am guessing turned from a root and if they are Australian, I would say Mallee roots.

They look like a contemporary version of a Bud Vase. Bud vases are used for a single stem floral arrangement.
