A week ago I received a letter ......... from the Queensland Government via Department of Main Roads............

"The Department of Transport & Main Roads and Logan City Council are undertaking a joint investigation to identify a viable corridor for a future motorway known as the Park Ridge Connector. To date, a refined area of interest has been identified within which a future motorway could be constructed on a number of possible alignments.....

YADA YADA YADA

..... your property falls within this refined area of interest and may be impacted by a future alignment............
. "

By all accounts ..... from the very first notification that I have been provided with to date so far ( pending the FIRST of the now notified 5 "planned" community meetings starting from next Wednesday evening ~~~ ostensibly for further info & sighting of THE *ahem-cough* ACTUAL PLAN )........... is that MY home is going to be SMACK-BANG in the middle of this "refined" area and will be BULL-DOZED for a 6-LANE 100km FREEWAY ......

SOOOOOOOOOO ~~~~~~~~ IF the plan gets the go ahead we can say SAYONARA to everything we have developed / planned for / worked towards in retirement.

Suffice to say at present- WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT HAPPY JAN ?? !!! X-(

UPDATE #3

It was STANDING ROOM ONLY in the Church hall last night - 200 seated and I estimate maybe another 50 standing around the walls. Says a lot for "word of mouth on the grapevine" and letterbox drops. Particularly so when many people had NOT been advised by Dept of Transport & Main Roads that their properties could be impacted.

Journalist from one local newspaper came. Next week's edition of Jimboomba Times will run another article.

Channel 7 NEWS was there. We recorded the program on spec but haven't had time to watch it yet to see if we got any air-time.

Our local Councillor (Phil Pidgeon) was the ONLY official that had the guts to turn up. He doesn't want the road either. He is on Facebook ..... search 'Councillor Phil Pidgeon'. ๐Ÿ˜‰

His message : Get the facts, stand your ground and never give up. I won't give up. Thanks for your support on this.

Other persons of 'officialness' were invited but - yeah well!!! Gutless wonders X-(

It's amazing how these officials can make huge decisions that affect so many lives, and not have the courage to face the folk they are affecting. Keep at emn Hynes, people power can work.

Many voices make one big roar. I am amazed that this was never on planning plans when the properties were bought and that they expect to dump this on people and everyone go 'Ok"

so I just had a brief read over this and they want to make this road because there is a park Ridge development of 2500 hectares of bush and house around 30k people and this road is necessary for infrastructure, but what are this many people going to do.

I believe the next Council elections are in March 2012. The State Govt elections are generally around about the same time >>>>>> http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/2011/02/future-election-dates.html

" The last State election was held several months early in March 2009. Queensland is the only state to retain three year terms so the next State election is set for the first half of 2012, three years elapsing in March 2012. The last possible date for the next Queensland election is 16 June 2012.

Local government elections are currently set down for March 2012, though the Electoral Commission's website currently suggests the date is up for review.

If the local government elections proceed in March 2012, it may be the Queensland state election comes forward to late 2011. Alternatively, the state election may be March 2012 and the local government elections are deferred. "

NUP Lee ~~ there weren't any "planning plans" when we bought the land here back in 1994. All searches were fine. No new roads ~ fine! No kerbing/channelling ~ fine! No town water ~ fine! No sewerage ~ fine! No industry ~ fine! No public transport ~ fine! No heavy vehicles ~ fine! No train service ~ fine! No noise ~ fine! No pollution ~ fine! No junk mail ~ fine! No pizza delivery ~ fine! though the last two weren't searches but our experiences over the last 17 years YAAAAY no letter box clutter and no doof-doof-doof deliveries :^O

Paradise is located 28km from Brisbane City centre ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah sure I & countless others knew that "suburbia" wasn't too far away distance-wise & the "creep & sprawl" would be slowly getting closer given time & as Developers eye off areas & "progress" happens - things like a full width of bitumen instead of a one-car wide strip where you put 2 wheels on the dirt & slowed down IF a vehicle was coming the other way. HA !! we even have lines on the bitumen now :^O But only a spit away to the north of us they still have a dirt road.

This C*AP is all new stuff that has been brought about since the BIG LAND GRAB when those horrid Council Amalgamations went ahead up here several years ago.

We were in the Beaudesert Shire Council area, the road our street comes off was the boundary to Logan City Council to the north. LCC needed to expand in all directions and a LAND GRAB ensued. Despite much protestation about all that we are now in LCC area and they are rubbing their hands together and have big dollar signs in their eyeballs because they now have room to expand and of course a larger rates base to play with albeit most is Rural Residential around here, but with rezoning & small block residential development that rates base will naturally skyrocket !!!

Unfortunately for us from what we have seen of the planning scheme this area will be overtaken eventually and rezoned in many years to come as Industrial. We won't see any financial gain from that zoning as the valuation will by all accounts be worked out on the current zoning.... I did find a reference for that but it escapes me at the moment.

TMR have stated that they will pay "Market Value" when and if resumption is to go ahead but what market value does an acreage property have that is impacted by a FREEWAY ???

We can't morally or ethically sell up now or any time in the future whilst this is on the cards.

This is funny, but two weeks ago my son was up near Beaudesert chasing a bunch of hang gliders around the country. He came back with pictures of the area ( beautiful) , no people. Up until then i was clueless as to its existence . I have to wonder how many of the councillors have any vested near or far interest in any proposed development. I would get a valuation pre freeway, that is with no freeway in the equation. before they even start with bang on market value.
When we moved to our little hamlet on the central coast alot of people said why would you move there its so far away from every thing. Its a 10 minute extra drive to work for hubby and we just said 'yes it is" for modified versions of your reasons.

Another week gone. Another Residents Meeting last Tuesday night. Another HUGE crowd, more than last week.

More gutless wonders too X-(

All Logan City Councillors were invited to attend - even the Mayor, Pam Parker - but NUP - she must have been too busy "washing her hair" or doing something else much more important than placating the natives. Similarly, Councillors Sean Black, Cherie Dalley and Lisa Bradley were non-attendees. If any of 'em are your Councillor I would be seriously asking myself come Council elections in early 2012 whether they have YOUR interests at heart or only their pockets.

Of course it goes without saying much that MP John Mickel (the local State member & Qld Speaker) did not attend as he is "quitting" politics, but Linus Power his possible Labor heir apparent came instead. He was the ONLY person that I YELLED at that night. X-( X-( He'd better do his homework & have a better understanding of the Main Roads processes if he attends the next meeting !!

Significantly, there were two new faces giving us support - Mike Kelly, (Independent) and Peter Anderson-Barr (LNP) - both candidates for the State election also coming in early 2012.

Our local Councillor, Phil Pidgeon was there as usual but he reported that he was given a hard time at the Council Meeting that morning trying to table a motion to present residents' Petitions....... this is an excerpt from an overview of the morning's proceedings as written by a bloke who takes notes in the Public Gallery.......

" Cr Pidgeon asked leave to present a number of petitions from his residents. There was little said, that I could hear, about their contents. I suspect that they are about the Park Ridge Connector. ........

" Cr Pidgeon said that his residents were seriously concerned about the Park Ridge Connector route, particularly those who will live beside it, and he attempted to frame a motion that would be sent to the Minister about the shortness of the consultation period. The Mayor interrupted him and the DCEO for Infrastructure told us that the consultation ends on Friday 18 November and that council will get a report on the consultation at the next round of committee meetings to ruminate over. Pidgeon gave the answer for his rush by saying that he had to go to a public meeting this evening and explain what it was all about. He said that he thought they deserved answers."

So the Petitions weren't accepted by LCC this time.

What a great system of government we have !!!!! X-( X-( X-(

I'm sorry to read of the anxiety this is causing you hynes, you have my sympathy . this type of thing can be extremely traumatic. My aunts house in St Peters (SA) was subject to compulsory acquisition years ago when they built the bus thing to the outer adelaide suburbs (i cant remember what its called ATM) she was given a reasonable price, but didn't want to leave her home regardless .. perfectly understandable. I hope you can beat them !
