and I would like to THANK YOU ALL for all your insights, information & education plus your sympathies and well wishes too in my own & my OH's personal ' not so very good times '.

BUT - Now I am about to start on a new & totally foreign journey ...... you might have read posts from me saying that I was "slightly stressed at the moment" ????????????

A week ago I received a letter ......... from the Queensland Government via Department of Main Roads............



"The Department of Transport & Main Roads and Logan City Council are undertaking a joint investigation to identify a viable corridor for a future motorway known as the Park Ridge Connector. To date, a refined area of interest has been identified within which a future motorway could be constructed on a number of possible alignments.....

YADA YADA YADA


..... your property falls within this refined area of interest and may be impacted by a future alignment............. "

By all accounts ..... from the very first notification that I have been provided with to date so far ( pending the FIRST of the now notified 5 "planned" community meetings starting from next Wednesday evening ~~~ ostensibly for further info & sighting of THE *ahem-cough* ACTUAL PLAN )........... is that MY home is going to be SMACK-BANG in the middle of this "refined" area and will be BULL-DOZED for a 6-LANE 100km FREEWAY ......

SOOOOOOOOOO ~~~~~~~~ IF the plan gets the go ahead we can say SAYONARA to everything we have developed / planned for / worked towards in retirement.

Suffice to say at present- WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT HAPPY JAN ?? !!! X-(

Been a bit of a kerfuffle about submission closing date, originally 18/11/2011 and then we were told by email from the TMR project team we had until "Christmas", then the TMR Minister said NOPE it's to be 3/12, then the Logan Mayor wrote to him requesting a further extension .... because 3/12 didn't suit Council as it would not give them enough time to contemplate their navels before the next Council meeting on 6/12...... magnanimously the Minister has extended closing date now to 31/12/2011.  Next Council meeting will be on 16/1/2012.

No points for guessing where I and many other residents will be on 16 January 😉

During last week we attended a Neighbourhood Watch meeting and LO & BEHOLD - two persons of officialdom were invited - John Mickel & Cherie Dalley - but only one showed..... John Mickel - the soon-to-retire State Member !!

He did not have a pleasant evening 🙂

His protege, Linus Power, came with him but I didn't yell at him this time.

We have been very active in doing letterbox drops, my car displays posters, leaflets are available at my work (cleared that with HO) and I talk to everyone I meet living in the general area asking for their opinion about the road........

"What road?" is usually the answer, sometimes it's "WTF - we don't need a road down the middle of here - Main Roads are joking aren't they?"

Tomorrow night 7pm there is another residents meeting at Park Ridge Baptist Church on the service road.  Topic of discussion & a great revelation to other residents [ BTW - I've already seen the info 😉  ] is the LEAKED TMR DOCUMENTATION showing the actual position of the road and interchanges.... ANNNNNND -  they've been telling us up to last week they haven't got anything definite - it's all still in planning stage - our property might not impacted ????

UPDATE........

Tomorrow morning 16/1/2012 is ARMAGEDDON DAY ~~~ tomorrow being the day that Dept of  Main Roads presents their so called alleged "Report" to Logan City Council, allegedly & supposedly based upon the submissions / feedback received up to 31/12/2011...... albeit this so-called "Report"  will be discussed in a CLOSED MEETING of Council though ...... members of the public i.e. US, the residents, are not permitted access to hear what is said nor even if our lives, our homes, our lifestyles etc etc etc will definitely be affected nor even when !!!!

Main Roads have still NOT told everyone in the line of fire nor even within coo-ee of this FREEWAY that their lives are about to be STUFFED !!!!!

Tomorrow is also the day for residents to gather outside the Council chambers at Logan Central on Wembley Road to voice our protestations / dissatisfaction / upset.

Police permit has been obtained for a public assembly.

"Uniforms" have been obtained.

TV & Radio stations have been advised - BUT will any of 'em turn up???  All anyone can do is ADVISE them about a news story and there has been quite a bit of that advice given by many residents. Can't force them to attend though.

One of our local newspapers - "The Reporter" - has said someone will be there.... the "Jimboomba Times" though apparently can't spare a Journo as Monday is their day to finalise this week's edition before print and I am told that everyone is required to be "in the office".  hmmmm.

Brisbane's MAJOR newspaper - Courier-Mail - is an unknown ?? possible political interference ?? possible financial contributions from political parties.  Yeah well.

hmmmm - No idea.... perhaps I should think on it seeing as how I have to be up & about EARLY for ARMAGEDDON DAY tomorrow.

Sorry - meant to say before too that whilst tomorrow is the day that Main Roads actually presents their " Report " ..... the Logan City Councillors would be INSANE to approve it immediately given that Local Govt elections are coming up and given that Tuesday of next week (24/1) is scheduled as the next General Meeting for Council which is more than likely to be the day that they will either vote with a YES or NO for this insanity.

Guess we will find out THEN which Councillors have LIED and / or DECEIVED us and who of them can expect to receive a vast lot of votes or a reduced number of votes, as the case may be, in the upcoming Local Govt elections.

UPDATING......  😞

Much and little has happened since my last post.

Oh ~~ Where do I start???  Excuse me if I ramble.

We still live in limbo ~~~ not being consulted - not being informed - and not knowing the "what or when" of anything that is (maybe if but perhaps) going to happen.

We STILL hang by the "short & curlies" awaiting some form of official advice from the "powers-that-be" about what's going on. PPPFFFTTT!!!!!  So much for transparency & openess of government. HA !! 

The elections can't happen soon enough for us......on ALL 3 LEVELS !!! ..... State Govt first, Local Govt is next and goodness knows what's going to be on the cards Federally in the next couple of weeks .... a la the current Gillard / Rudd scenario????   One thing is for sure - the Labor party in any way, shape or form will NOT be getting OUR VOTES, nor the votes of many other 100's of people living near me.

I could tell you a long story about a telephone survey conducted on SUNDAY by "Nationwide Market Research" but I won't .... suffice to say that my particular age group wasn't of interest to them as they deemed the over 55's to be "stay at homes" and they wanted "younger" people who were more likely to be "out & about" more.... ie saving 10 minutes in commute time on a FREAKIN' FREEWAY  ( the PRC was one of the questions OK??? ) ....BUT when OH answered the very FIRST question of who he voted for LAST election, the call was terminated BY THEM.... hmmmm.... that smacks to me of "statistical stacking" and "loading the bases".  Yeah well what can one do about that??   Absolutely nothing. Just bear it in mind should you receive a call.

Now ~~~~ my Council - Logan City Council - voted IN FAVOUR of this PR*C* of a "road" on 24/1/2012, and that was DESPITE public protestations from residents - emailed, written & physically displayed during a PEACEFUL PROTEST on the footpath outside Council Chambers.....  and DESPITE petitions lodged with them and tabled with the Qld Govt.

A lot of residents in and around where I live, to this date, HAVE NO BLEEDING IDEA what is being planned & they don't realise that the Qld Govt is planning on extending the FREAKIN' GATEWAY MOTORWAY through here ( 4 lanes minimum but depending on spacing of interchanges it could be 8 lanes !!!).  BUT ..... People are still able to buy properties and are not being afforded any knowledge of how they are going to be SHAFTED and financially DESTROYED in years to come.

On a personal level ........

OH's retirement plans & our future life is now SHOT TO BITS  - does anyone in Govt care??? ~~ NOPE

WE are devastated  - OH doesn't want to do anything, and neither do I, and why should we expend $$$'s on anything we planned to do if it is eventually going to be demolished anyway.

We were going to GO SOLAR .....not now !!!

We were going to REPAINT inside & out..... not now!!!

We were going to RENOVATE for our later years......not now!!!

He was going to extend the BOYS TOYS SHED.....got the concrete slab done last year but the frame is now rusting away, laying on the ground & overgrown with weeds.

OH's vege garden (& a food supply for us) has gone to rack & ruin - why bother??

I was going to GO the colorbond roofing manufacturer under their 20 year warranty which is due to expire in a couple of years ( they have acknowledged in writing that the sheeting is faulty ) - but now - WHY BOTHER !!!

Our financial & personal future is SHOT TO BITS - OH recently retired & we have had to forego investment / taxation opportunities because we could need $$$'s to buy another home & relocate soon (yes of course there is recompense under the Acquisition of Land Act ~~~ but it doesn't happen immediately  - does anyone in Govt care??? ~~ NOPE.

Our community relationships are SHOT TO BITS - we have good friendships with our neighbours but we will be split asunder - does anyone in Govt care??? ~~ NOPE.

Our lifestyle is SHOT TO BITS - there are 7 route options for the PR*C* of a road..... 4 of 'em wipe us out TOTALLY, 3 of 'em leave us with visual and/or audible pollution and/or other types of pollution such as dust/fumes/road grime... but we rely on tank water collected from our roof and there's no hint of town water being connected anytime in the forseeable future........ does anyone in Govt care??? ~~NOPE.

The future of the wildlife here is SHOT TO BITS too - yeah sure they can build wildlife tunnels & fence off the PR*C* of a road....BUT - how do you TELL the animals / other critters where they have to go without getting KILLED and what about the migratory birdlife when they return to their breeding grounds after 100's perhaps 1000's of kms of flight and the trees are GORRRN !!!! - does anyone in Govt care??? ~~ NOPE.

Seems to me the only thing that anyone in Govt CARES ABOUT is how many $$$$$$$$$$'s they can make / siphon off in the near future from "developing" the 100's of hectares of rural and rural / residential land around here. Word is that there will be small-block residential and industrial rezonings.   Logan City Council certainly have mega-dollar symbols in their eyeballs.

Stuff the residents !!! Stuff the wildlife !!! Stuff the environment !!!
