The 36-year-old pleaded guilty in Hobart's Supreme Court to two counts of using a carriage service to access child pornography and one count of possessing child exploitation material.

Police found more than 12,000 images of child pornography and 24 videos on his computer in June 2010 - at least 60 showing the explicit or sadistic treatment of children.

The details of the charges against the former presenter of Collectors were revealed in the Supreme Court yesterday more than two years after his arrest.

Muirhead now faces two weeks behind bars before being sentenced.

His defence lawyer says a psychologist's report found the Muirhead was not a paedophile and was not sexually aroused by children, but viewed the material to reduce tension.

The prosecutor said the report had no merit.

Chief Justice Ewan Crawford said he needed to consider whether he accepted the psychologist's report, and if he did not, more evidence may need to be called.

😞 gutted and X-( really angry at the same time... I feel like Muirhead conned me... I dunno why.. maybe a trust thing ??

I need to collect pottery, art, glass, wooden wares and many other wonders to release tension and get a thrill. But I don't need to see children in distress to feel real.

No wonder you feel "conned".

That is very much " a trust thing" on the part of young children not being " let down" by older and wiser people.

I don't know why ALL explicit material isn't banned. It's not needed, simple as that.

if you recall Senator Conroys outrage a  few years back Kopenhagen5 that led him to start talking of an internet filter ..and the consequent outrage from all quarters  including the opposition, you may understand the difficulty politicians face. on one hand we have a glaring and obvious need to filter at least some material, and an electorate hostlile to the idea of any filtering at the same time. the opposition do have something at commitee level, but not any kind of proposal ready to go. its a mess alright

lakeland, I'm not familiar with much of political happenings. But, yes some kind of censorship required on the internet.

I was more referring to explicit material being totally eradicated from earth, overnight. Haven't found the solution yet.

The gradual acceptance of certain ways, has led our children into a new type of norm that they will only realise later is wrong.

Bring back tradition and solid simple values I say.
