101 Things To Do when your Self Isolating

I'm isolating with husband (stood down) daughter (stood down) and one of my sons who is working from home.

โ€ข Not strictly isolating but I do have to look after my parents, OH's parents and BIL and his family - just doing their groceries etc so they can stay inside
โ€ข I am not totally isolating as I am (volunteer) working with some local charities cooking reheatable meals and assembling food packages for distribution in the local community for those in need
โ€ข My real job has reduced to about 15 hrs but I still do some work on line from home.
โ€ข Colouring In - I'm loving Kerby Rosane and Johanna Basford
โ€ข Board Games - Kids have zillions
โ€ข Knitting
โ€ข Studying
โ€ข Spending extra time with my husband and daughter
โ€ข Coffee dates with friends and work colleagues via Skype or FaceTime
โ€ข Taking the time to be grateful and remind myself of everything I have to be grateful for
โ€ข Helping one son to transfer/manage his previously part time tutoring business to a full time on line service. (He is full time employed as an engineer - currently working on line from home in essential service) - with school closures the demand for his online tutoring service has exploded!
โ€ข Developing a Math App with same son
โ€ข Daughter and I stockpiled a motza of art and craft supplies, so we will find some projects to do in that - I'm currently doing decorating a guitar with mosaics and a violin with pearls
โ€ข Read all of those books I bought and never got around to reading yet
โ€ข Reestablish a healthy sleep routine and hygiene
โ€ข I'm interested in neurobiology for a while now so as a hobby I'm self studying that
โ€ข Husband is going to teach me some woodworking (he builds wooden toys and furniture etc)
โ€ข I've been learning the Harmonica - so practise that lots more
โ€ข Watch TED talks
โ€ข Play around in the music room with OH and the kids - get a decent jam session going LOL
โ€ข I might even do a you tube search for "learn to crochet" - i never learned how, always wanted to - got a few beginner books already
โ€ข I'm thinking about getting back into eBay selling
โ€ข Clean and organise my office!

LOL Stawks! Notice there was no TV etc in that list - as a rule I don't watch TV apart from the occasional Netflix series or Gordon Ramsay You Tube Clip lol and it's been a long time since I've read a book for pleasure - it all seems to have been work or study related for the past few years.

I've had to restructure my life and that of my family to contain itself within 4 walls...

None of us are used to being so contained and we're assuming things will be like this for at least a few months so it'll be a challenge to stop us going stir crazy!

I think the cars are very excited to have their wheels still for a while, especially the kids' they were forever on the go.

I'm also conscious of the isolation leading to depression - apparently the two go hand in hand and the loss of work for my husband and daughter has hit them hard. So I'm conscious of keeping them engaged in meaningful and productive pursuits with which to occupy their time - especially the little girl, she's doing it really tough mentally. She's finding it very hard to accept that her education and career are at best on stand by (she does tend to catastrophise so is worried she has lost her job permanently etc) whilst her brothers have not been affected negatively at all. This crisis has actually benefited both boys and provided them a few advantages and opportunities.

The only down side for big fella really has been his church - it closed down ( he is very religious) and they've stopped all their social activities and community service.

Little fellas church is going strong - they've gone online so he's all good.

All the kids seem to be coping socially by using Skype, facetime and google hang out - big fella even had his birthday party on line last week!

It's also been really good for my husband and I. We've now got the opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with each other and the kids - something we took for advantage a bit when we were busy doing our own thing.

Life, for you, sounds good these days, Crikey.

I'm gathering the 'little girl' is not so little any more.

Glad the boys are also doing well.

It's been a long time since you were here.

Stay safe with your volunteering.

Haha, the little girl is 20 now! Not so little I guess, but she's still my baby (and her father's raison d'รชtre - they've always been very close, daddy's little girl LOL) and they're still like two peas in a pod. *soft smile*

Things are ok for us Stawks - no complaints. On the whole, life is treating me and my immediate family well, we are certainly blessed and have a lot to be grateful for.

There are so many people who are doing it so rough mentally, financially and general health, even before this virus. I'm very aware of how fortunate we all are.

Yes, the boys are toddling along fine. Their career, financial and emotional resilience during this crisis has reinforced a lot of things for me (self validation is always good lol) and given me an opportunity to be appreciative of a lot of things and people that contributed to their development.

The local community service doesn't expose me to any increased significant risk.

How are you travelling, what have you been up to?
