That is how many votes one party apparently got to win a Senate seat and possibly be able to decide on yours and my future.
29% of the votes is all one sitting mp got yet he will now win his seat....
Now I really do not mind anyone winning a seat... congratulations... BUT I feel there is a major flaw in the system when not only does 1900 votes gets you a seat at the major decision making table and just over 1/4 of the votes wins you a seat when the other person gets over 40% of the votes.
Is it time we change to first past the post or is this preferential system a good thing and allows micro parties to have a say?

Cathy McGowen is within 300 votes of defeating Sophie Mirabella.
She got more than 1200 votes ๐
The speeches are intersting SM attacked Labor/greens and Indies and said Cathy had been used by them.
Cathy was just jubilant about the local grass roots campaign coming so close.

Eden-Monaro is pretty close too.
THE final result in the race for Eden-Monaro between Labor incumbent Mike Kelly and Liberal challenger Peter Hendy may not be known until September 20.
The Australian Electoral Commission confirmed this morning a recount of all votes cast on election day will be carried out today (Monday, September 11) before counting of the thousands of pre-poll and postal votes begins.
The AEC said final results from the pre-poll and postal vote count wonโt be confirmed until 13 days after election day.
Mr Hendy currently holds a razor thin 386 vote lead out of more than 80,000 votes already counted.
Dr Kelly, however, will be hoping for a strong result from pre-polls which broke heavily in his favour in 2010.
I wonder if we will retain our reputation as the bellwether seat?

I think it's what makes our government system great actually and I wish there were more special interest groups and independents. It keeps governments on their toes.
That's why it is a shame that the Democrats have disappeared.

Cathy in front by 1700 votes now. Might be bye bye Sophie.
