What I want to know though whose idea was it that a commercial plane was safe to fly over a war zone?
the flight route was declared
safe by international civil aviation organisation
also the air space was not subject to restrictions
according to other air transport authorities.
avoiding the area was up to individual airlines discretion. they
obviously didnt think a passenger plane would be targeted.
Flying over a war zone is a dumb idea and it should never have been declared safe! No different to flying over Syria or Gaza right now. RIP to those who lost their lives.

It is very sad, such a large number of deaths.
My daughter is flying back from London next month, stopover in Kuala Lumpur. Can't imagine how horrific it would be to lose someone in a plane crash.

I keep pondering on how this morning the Americans said that if any Americans were aboard they'd be hell to pay......yet Australia has lost over 25 civilians and we seem to be (for a non slap able word) weak in our response.
The US is busting for another smoking gun to have a go at Russia

What I'm wondering is: where on earth are they ever going to find a team to investigate it whose findings will be accepted by both sides?

The plane was shot down by mistake over Ukraine; just as USA shot Iranian airliner in 1988 and earlier USSR shot down the Korean one. So what sort of response do you want? It will be dificult to prove that Russians gave the misile to the rebels; it could have been taken from Ukrainian forces.
The worrying thing is that as there are so many conflicts going on around the world, and all sorts of people are getting hold of some very dangerous weapons. Frankly, I feel nervous to fly over Pakistan, where there are so many west hating radicals, who would not hesitate to shoot down airliner given the chance.

can you see a jumbo jet flying at 33000 feet(10 km) from the ground to even shoot at?
