why would the other passengers get

infected?  if a sick person was being

evacuated - wouldn't they be isolated?

I have been reading about this and it seems the concern at the moment is not the funds to send personnel to help, but rather the duration of the return flight should some of those deployed become infected. I read somewhere about the return flight being approx 30 hours, and concerns that this length of time may not be able to be endured.

There is also a list of about 9 other countries who are much closer who have also declined deployment of their personnel at this time for similar reasons

My conclusion so far is that the concern is for the health and care of those we send to help.

yes i read that Martini, Disney must be a more worthwhile investment than stopping ebola to some

its not the money that is most needed

from australia -

MSF has declined the donation, saying that what's needed instead is a specialised deployment of civil and military assets

sorry Julia I misread your post

yes, they would all have to be in isolation.  The nurse in the US worked under the guidelines but still contracted ebola, Perhaps it was the way she removed her  protective garments?

And to put the fundng into perspective -

The government spent $21.6mill to Disney to ensure they filmed the next Pirates of the Carribean in Australia.

Mark Zuckerman donated $28million to funding the fight against Ebola announced the same day our government announced our paltry $18mill.

Perspective?

POTC = investment in Australian tourism, Australian industry, Australian jobs and the Australian Economy.

Mark Zuckermanberg, the facebook guy, right? (sorry if I have the wrong guy)

Last Thursday, in one day, he earned $US 1.6 BILLION dollars and has a current net worth of $$US 33.3 BILLION dollars.

One billion dollars equals 1000 million dollars. When someone has $33 thousand million dollars at their disposal, $US28 million really doesn;'t seem like that much, does it?

Last week he also spent 100 million on property.

I don't think our bottom line looks that healthy. For him, $28 million is pocket money (Though we do appreciate his contributions. It was nice of him)

No, the nurses in US did not work to the guidelines, and at last the authorities have admitted it and apologised.  They tried to hide it for days.  Apparently the attendants did not have complete cover up and had some skin or hair uncovered.  It is not that easy to contract.  A bit like HIV.

There would not be a more protected person than POTUS.

President Obama Wednesday that the dangers of a widespread Ebola outbreak in the United States are "extraordinarily low," pointing to his own contact with medical personnel treating a patient infected with the virus.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with cabinet secretaries and other top federal officials, Obama said Ebola is being "taken very seriously at the highest levels of government," but stressed that the risk of infection for the average American remains very low.

Obama said he had been in close contact with nurses at Emory University hospital who cared for two American Ebola patients.

"I shook hands with, hugged and kissed not the doctors, but a couple of the nurses at Emory, because of the valiant work that they did in treating one of the patients. They followed the protocols, they knew what they were doing, and I felt perfectly safe doing so," he said.

The president stressed that Ebola is not spread as the flu is, by way of sneezes or coughs. The virus is only spread by direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone who was infected and is exhibiting symptoms of the virus, which include a fever and vomiting.
