I have nothing against Harry and Meghan - in fact I applaud them for wanting to cut their ties with the Royal family and earn their own living - but a letter in today's West Australian suggesting Hary should be made Governor General of Australia reminded me of a poem by Hilaire Belloc.
You can read the whole poem here: https://monologues.co.uk/Childrens_Favourites/Lord_Lundy.htm but the extracts that really tickled my funny bone were the following:
Lord Lundy from his earliest years
Was far too freely moved to Tears.
. . . . . . . . . . .
His Grandmamma, His Mother's (or in Harry's case of course Father's) Mother,
Who had some dignity or other,
The Garter, or no matter what,
I can't remember all the Lot!
Said "Oh! That I were Brisk and Spry
To give him that for which to cry!"
(An empty wish, alas! For she
Was Blind and nearly ninety-three).
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. .
The Duke -- his aged grand-sire -- bore
The shame till he could bear no more.
He rallied his declining powers,
Summoned the youth to Brackley Towers,
And bitterly addressed him thus--
"Sir! you have disappointed us!
We had intended you to be
The next Prime Minister but three:
The stocks were sold; the Press was squared:
The Middle Class was quite prepared.
But as it is! . . . My language fails!
Go out and govern New South Wales!"

Not quite she-ele.
My OHs cousin is a Constitutional Lawyer and according to him the Canadian Constitution as it stands will not allow Harry and Megan to live permanently in Canada.
Apparently members of the Royal Family can visit when invited and have their security expenses covered. They can come for a holiday as M & H have done but their security expenses were covered by the UK..... but they cannot live permanently in Canada under any circumstances.....some quirk of the Canadian Constitution.
If they somehow managed to circumvent that part of the Constitution Harry would not be accepted as a Permanent Resident as he would not have the educational and/or the work history.....he has not had any sort of job training to equip him to work in Canada.
If they wanted to apply for Permanent Residency Megan would have to be the applicant with Harry and Archie listed as dependents.
And on top of all the legal obstacles the Canadian people are not happy that Trudeau has supposedly assured the Queen that Canada will foot the bill for their security.

Funny old world, where her work as a soapie TV actress counts, but his extensive military training and service doesn't.

But that still presupposes that those questions have not already been raised and sorted out in private. I imagine if they gave up their royal titles they would have the same right as anyone else to apply for Canadian citzenship or at least permanent residency (which is what I have in Australia. Wouldn't his time in the army count? Also, if they spend part of each year in Britain they wouldn't be permanent residents anyway.

They won't give up their titles, they've applied worldwide to copyright them witrh the aim, presumably, of exploiting them commercially.

Thanks Lyndal - had read that also - hence my comments.

They can't "sort" anything without changing the Constitution....and I am pretty sure that cannot be done i private. As it stands now they have no right at all to live in Canada....they cannot apply for residency..
I cannot see them giving up their titles......and Harry cannot give up being a Prince.....he was born a Prince.
Frankly I would like to see the Queen remove the Sussex title.....Princess Harry or Princess Henry is not nearly as classy as Duchess of Sussex.
I wondered about Harry's armey service too but the conversation went onto other family matters and I did not get a chance to ask.

Food for thought .Time will tell I guess. It will be interesting to see what eventally happens.
I guess the silver spoon in the mouth can easily turn into a millstone round the neck.
