Well I had a really great answer to this question ready, where I was going to refer to Einstein's theory of spacetime. But I must concede that freddie's and ecar's answers are both correct. So question answered. Damn.

It all depends on whether you are half "holy" or not, in which case, a religiously dug hole would be the whole hole, but not totally wholey half of a hole! .....

um, obviously only throw the soil from the top half of the hole back in.......DOH!
