A Royal Commission into Union corruption? Why?

Is this really necessary given that it is a criminal matter?

Like how much does a Royal Commission cost? $400million? $600million?

And why is it that the Liberal Party are forever making the excuse that the 'public' have concerns and this is the reason they have to do something? ("Senator Brandis confirmed...it would be "irresponsible for the government not to respond in an appropriate way" to public concerns."). What concerns? I think the public is more concerned about the secrecy regarding the governments handling of the asylum seekers yet they don't think THOSE public concerns are important.

freaki, they are trying to kill off the trade union movement, not the ALP - slogan is pretty much picking up where howard left off, both following thatcher - smash the trade unions - increase profits for you mates and their mates and probably try and push the ALP further to the right.

Not with the way they keep linking the ALP with the unions and corruption.  The language used is designed to inflict as much damage as possible to the ALP by constantly using Labor and corruption in the same sentence.  Prosecutions don't matter as long as the end result is that Labor is associated with corruption by default.  They're following the MUD STICKS principle.

Hopefully one with enough respect for themselves and their country not to use derogatory terms when referring to other people, particularly their Prime Minister and those who the majority elected to lead the country.

I was reading a book today which I found really interesting.

It was trying to summarize the history of Aboriginal Law in Australia before Cook (BC).

They were saying that BC, Aboriginal Society resembled one of Socialism, in a good way, it wasn't a bad article. I liked what they were saying and it made sennse, but I'm not sure that I could now live like that now that I have experienced the AC society, but if I didn't know any different and it was in my culture and traditions, it sounded really good.

It was just discussing the differences in the customs and values.

in materialism,

then individualism vs collectivism

nuclear family vs extended family

that sort of thing.

It has inspired me to learn more about Socialism, but I think I like my Capitalism too much to ever want to change.
