Generally speaking, without a genetic disposition and under the age of 16, Yes.

Parents with a healthy lifestyle should be able to bring children into teen years without them being overweight.

Keep in mind some health practitioners version of overweight isn't necessarily overweight.

Parents are definitely responsible for what they feed their babies and what sort of eating habits they develop in them, and the example they give.  Parents who guzzle coke, stuff their faces with donuts and other fat/sugar rich nutrition poor junk, and consider eating at McDonald's exciting thing to do, will prime their kids for obesity.

But there is also epigenetics at play, and as our ancestors went through various periods of famines, our bodies were primed to store fat for the next lean times.  Some people are better at storing than others.

If Bob had kids they wouldn't be overweight.  Smiley Happy

He'd bring up a subject at the dinner table and announce "discuss".  The kids would be too busy engaging in dialogue to eat.  I don't think they would be allowed to talk with their mouth full.

So 3 of them wouldn't let the other 5 get a word in edgewise and the other 2 were at "sport"?
