A week of spin, division and incompetence

A week of spin, division and incompetence

The first parliamentary sitting week for 2013 again highlighted Labor’s incompetence, division and dishonesty.

As MPs returned to Canberra, ordinary Australians were again reminded of Labor’s division and addiction to spending, spin and broken promises.

In the space of just a week:

  • Julia Gillard and Labor confirmed that the budget is in deficit, despite previously promising and guaranteeing a surplus on over 650 occasions

  • Labor also refused to rule out further tax hikes on superannuation

  • It was revealed at the ICAC inquiry in NSW that Ministers Conroy and Burke had accepted free hospitality from Eddie Obeid

  • Senator Trish Crossin had demanded a board or ambassadorial appointment following her dumping by the Prime Minister

  • Craig Thomson appeared before court in Melbourne to be formally charged with 154 fraud offences

  • The Prime Minister accused some of her own MPs of undermining the Government

  • Kevin Rudd’s backers in Caucus continued to agitate for change in the Labor leadership

  • And to cap the week off, Wayne Swan announced quietly this afternoon that the mining tax has only raised about 10% of what it was supposed to raise!

This is going to be a hell of a year for Labor.

I missed seeing all that on the news. I was reading The Australian about mr rabbit giving a character reference to a priest convicted of paedophilia ... you have to wonder why on earth he would do that 😞

Because it was 1997 when he did that..... You really do leave out the facts in your hatred and bitterness to Abbott dont you and the priest won an appeal and had his conviction squashed.

Tony Abbott first met John Nestor at the St Patrick's seminary in Manly in 1984, when they were training for the Catholic priesthood.

They became friends and kept in touch several times a year even after their life journeys went in different directions.

Abbott went into politics. Nestor completed his training and became a priest in the Wollongong diocese of NSW.

When Nestor found himself before a Wollongong magistrate in 1997 charged over the alleged indecent assault of a teenage altar boy, Abbott came to his defence with a character reference.

Asked to describe his friend, the then parliamentary secretary to the Employment Minister said: "An extremely upright and virtuous man. I guess one of the things that I like very much about John when I first met him was his maturity - intellectual, social, emotional. And he was, to that extent I guess, a beacon of humanity at the seminary."

But the priest was bailed pending an appeal of the conviction and never served any time behind bars.

In October 1997, Nestor won his appeal to quash the conviction in the Wollongong District Court.

District Court Judge Joe Phelan questioned the validity of the boy's evidence, but said that Nestor should have been "more prudent".

"Inappropriate conduct does not prove that a criminal offence took place," the judge said.

Judge Phelan said Nestor was of good character and had maintained his innocence.

A post must have been removed as I don't see anything on my post that releated to a priest or charges that were quashed against him.

Please enlighten me as to where this topic came from. So no comment on my topic at all???

Yes, I've noticed that about the Labs on here, they deliberately ignore the topic then attack Abbott.

They all must be getting their cues from McTernan & the Labor Way as Ms Gillard is so fond of calling her party & it's deeds.

The Labor Way,  is that the Labor Way we are supposed to follow? The Labor Way who have lost their way?  The Labor Way which is a good government but let Rudd run amok until, in The Labor Way  to knife him? The Labor Way to spin to the public on just about everything? The Labor Way to fail on every policy they have tried to implement?, The Labor Way to spend until we are in debt to the amount of $147billion?

The Labor Way to promise a surplus but deliver a deficit that would make your eyes water?.

Shall we all blindly follow The Labor Way over the cliff ?

Or turn our faces to the light, the truth, the responsible Liberal Way to live within our means, The Liberal Way of fairness & hope, The Liberal Way that has a vision for the future.

Thank you all  :-x
