Even if your child could be disruptive and take up more of the teachers time than others in the clasroom? Even though other parents might just think your child is badly behaved and not really disabled?

I do not know how the diagnosis is made today, but 20 years ago, it entailed a visit to a paediatric neurologist who said yay or nay often without any testing.   It appears that nothing much has changed.  The headline above is horrifiying to me.

? You didn't read several posts that pointed out the long process? It is not a single consultation, it's long and drawn out. Often blood tests are aslo required to rule out any other disorder. Often it is hard to dx.

I also believe that many parents look at medication to make their life easier, I also strongly believe that children with special needs should be given the opportunity to learn in mainstream schools, it teaches them and their classmates a lot about life. One of my closest friends who is a special needs teacher with a son who has downs syndrome pushed to have him educated in public schools, he does not have one friend with the same disability now in adult life.

My children and my grandchildren all attended mainstream school that catered for downs syndrome, wheelchair bound, and those with other disabilities. It's nothing new or hard to do.

Today, it is ongoing..........the child doesnt just get diagosed and that is it............it is a long process to start with and then it is ongoing for the rest of the child/adults life.

It really annoys me that people who dont have a child or adult with ADHD think they know so much.

My daughter is carer of her son because of his ADHD, her son goes to a mainstream school on the advice of his specialist and he is doing very well.

The diagnosis of a child or adult with suspected ADHD is extremely long drawn out process, it involves many visits and tests with a specialist, all sorts of tests including blood tests.

It is a condition that cant be diagnosed in a day, and it is on going and the child/adult stays on medication for life.................there is no cure........

I do not know how the diagnosis is made today.

Others have already posted in this thread the diagnosis process, so I am surprised people are claiming they don't know the process now.

Thank you for the info.  I was speaking about 20 years ago, which I made clear.
