He was a WA country football president for the Cervantes Tiger Sharks,(nothing to do with the AFL).

So obviously you are not into football.
They wear the West Coast Eagles guernseys and they have the AFL logo on them,(most likely the guernseys
were donated or they were bought from a store).
The are not affiliated with the AFL,(they are a country team).
You stated AFL club president stood down.
Which is clearly wrong as there are only 18 AFL teams and they aren't one of them:

Actually i cut and pasted the heading from the story on the ABC news website so if they have nothing to do with the AFL then i'm sorry.
but when you look at a site covering the actual team and its got a photo of a player wearing a gunsey with a huge AFL sew on badge on it, thinking they might be tied up under the banner of the Australian Football League (AFL) could be a mistake anyone might make?
oh, and IF they have nothing to do with the AFL why the heck would the CEO of the AFL care what their president said? why would he want to contact the WAFL to find out what they were intending to do re: this idiot?

on looking at the team site again, i'm gunna stick to them being somehow part of the AFL umbrella. the AFL would not let anyone use their AFL badge banner or whatever it is on their uniform without them being part of the AFL.
it makes no sense.

There are a lot of AFL badges guernseys for sale:
Their league is a very lop sided one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Midlands_Coastal_Football_League
The reason they asked about what action they would be taking is that the AFL is the Australian rules
governing body,(which covers all teams including juniors).
The AFL encourages country teams to use AFL club logos.
It cuts down on costs to country teams, they don't have to design their own or get someone to design them
and then they would have to get them registered.
The AFL is also the owner of all AFL club logos, jumpers and names.
So it is the owner of the logos allowing them to use them.
The benefit for the AFL is the promotion of the AFL brand and the brand of its teams.
That doesn't mean that those teams are affiliated with the AFL.
Many AFL clubs encourage country footy teams to come under the wing of the senior AFL teams.
This helps with funding and management.
Also as a way of recruiting young kids straight from their teams.
