No different from any other state or federal election.  Final results of every seat always take weeks.

that's what I can never figure out - on the night - they come out and say such-and-such has lost his seat - and only 30% of the vote is counted - so how can they say that? I mean, how do they know who the next 70% of votes are going to be for?

It has been only 7 working days, and postal votes need to arrive from overseas and recounts for close seats, before they can be declared.

There might have to be a by-election as well.

There is a cut off time for postals to arrive and be counted.  Tomorrow at 6pm is the cut off I think.   From a distance it looks like the LNP are not wanting to concede.  They seem to be following the line that they should retain govt in case they there is a by election and they win.

I think they work on the trend in votes and preferences as well as other factors such as how safe (or not) the seat is and swing.

The ECQ has only declared 35 seats so far:

Australian Labor Party 19

Katter's Australian Party 1

LNP 14

Other Candidates 1
