Tony Abbott is being hailed for his approach to Asia, somehow trumping mandarin speaking Kevin Rudd
Australia’s Ambassador to the US Kim Beazley has revealed that American officials were marvelling at Mr Abbott’s success in Asia.
“He has them somewhat intrigued,” Mr Beazley told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.
“They are very interested in the Prime Minister’s visits to Asia ... and what he has arranged in the region.”
An article published in Canada’s largest national newspaper The Globe and Mail, also suggested Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper “actively seek Mr Abbott’s views and advice” on Asia.
In the article he highlights differing platforms of Mr Abbott and Mr Rudd during the federal election, which he described as being, “seen in crude terms as a contest between an Anglophile and an Asianist”.
“And yet, on broad Asia policy, Mr Abbott has stayed the course,” Mr Woo wrote.
Mr Abbott has signed free-trade agreements with Korea and Japan, and is close to securing a deal with China. Australia also sent its largest ever trade mission to China. This all happened in 2014.
Mr Rudd with his Mandarin speaking skills, connections and Chinese son-in-law was expected to take relations with China to another level, but was instead dogged by inaction and controversy.
This included Mr Rudd’s alleged comments at the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009 when he supposedly said: “Those Chinese f**kers are trying to rat-f**k us”.

Meanwhile while Tony is jetsetting around the world visiting his new 'friends', what's happening back home? A lot of angry Aged pensioners, current and future Uni students, youth & families. Some happy ballet dancers & private colleges.

Also ridiculous that they brought this chestnut out even after the stort was found to be fabricated. Of course they prefaced it by saying it was "alleged" : This included Mr Rudd’s alleged comments at the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009 when he supposedly said: “Those Chinese f**kers are trying to rat-f**k us”.
But I suppose it is about as truthful and meaningful as the rest of the article. Which really...doesn't...say...,well,...anything...

Still it is good to hear that tony has managed to fit in a meal with that “wonderful” Australian”, rupert murdoch, while in the USA. I find it confusing that he refers to Murdoch as an Australian, given he’s renounced his citizenship. Does this mean that Abbott is still an Englishman?
After all, he’s too busy to meet those IMF and US government people. And after all, it’s the private sector that counts. Mm, makes one wonder why abbott went into politics! Like today we had the Deputy PM, whatsisname, defending the fact that head of Australia Post needed to be paid $4.8 million because he’d be paid a lot in the private sector. I didn’t quite follow the line of reasoning. It’s like saying that I should be paid for playing golf because if I was Tiger Woods I’d get a million dollars appearance money.
Still, I’m completely confused about the concern that Australia Post isn’t making money. I’m not dismissing the idea that it can’t attempt to cut their losses. But I’m not sure that it was originally set up to make money, it was created to provide a service. The fact that it couldn’t be done profitably without charging ridiculous amounts for a stamp - that’s why the government ran it in the first place. But this is part of the overall concept that the Prime Minister is just a CEO and his Cabinet is his Board of Directors.
Because after all it’s the economy that counts. Or to simplify the Liberal position: What’s the point in having a healthy planet, if there are no billionaires to complain about how much the minimum wage workers are being paid?

maybe this is why the tgraph published their little tale....
Tony Abbott's climate change stance criticised by senior US Democrat Henry Waxman just days before meeting with Barack Obama
Long-serving Californian Democrat Henry Waxman, regarded as one of the most powerful Democrats in the US, told ABC1's 7.30 program that the Australian Government's plan to repeal the carbon pricing scheme is a "mistake".
"As I understand it, Australia will go from being one of the great leaders in the world in tackling this problem, to one of the great laggers in addressing efforts to reducing the pollution that is threatening the planet that we're living on," he said.

"AIMN" blogger with a bright pink cycloptic history, the source certainly is typical, but who exactly is confused is the question that intrigues myself. It would also appear that the citizen blogger continues to be very confused when it comes to Australia Post, I think the blogger needs help with his many confusions.
"Still it is good to hear that tony has managed to fit in a meal with that “wonderful” Australian”, rupert murdoch, while in the USA. I find it confusing that he refers to Murdoch as an Australian, given he’s renounced his citizenship. Does this mean that Abbott is still an Englishman?"
I guess Abbott would be in the same boat as Gillard, (Poor Me though might have made it here in a boat, sans leeks), because they both renounced their British citizenship for political purposes.
Murdoch on the other hand renounced his Australian citizenship for sound economic reasons in that the FCC required he do so in order to own TV stations within the USA. However, he can become an citizen here any time, if he decides to.
"Section 17 of the 1948 Act was repealed with effect from 4 April 2002. Although the repeal was not retroactive, since 1 July 2007 former Australian citizens who lost citizenship because of the section are generally able to apply for resumption of Australian citizenship."
Tell the blogger it is not confusing! at all !

there is very little similarity in the citizenship actions of Gillard and Abbott.
she became a citizen in 1974 as a child. he did because he had to so he qualified for his scholarship, as a matter of urgency. he demanded special treatment to get it in time.
gillard dropped her dual citizenship to enter parliament but had been an aus citizen for years.

No leeks in the boat?

Difference might be that where Rudd was trying to negotiate a fair free trade deal, so there's something in it for us, Abbott is keeping one of his core promises "Whatever it takes" to get a deal signed. ie: "tell me what you want and where to sign"
