Abstract Art - why talk about it if you don't get it.

I volunteer at a regional gallery and get to meet some wonderful, weird and wacky people.

But the ones that get up my goat are the ones who say "That looks like something a 5 year old would do." and expect me to agree with them.

And whilst we have a lot of community exhibitions that are amateurish enough (so perhaps the comment may be fair enough), the comment is usually reserved for iconic artists in major travelling exhibitions who are extremely well known.

Does anyone here like abstract art? And if you really hate it, why?

There are a few more i could have included but they were not very flattering so I resisted, I am diplomatic 😉

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Thank you for not being verbose yourself and I do admire your tenacity on these boards stick to your guns because in the main you are right about most things although again one persons opinion and not shared by all

That is what makes it all the more interesting and at times challenging 🙂

If everyone always agreed and held the same viewpoint on everything, every one would be bored shiftless 🙂

A Picasso masterpiece has sold for $US160 million ($203 million) in New York, smashing the world record for the most expensive art sold at auction.

Yes I understand that now
When I first started reading here it v was on the selling thread and everyone was so helpful and lovely and later discovered the community spirit and was so enraged by the cyber bullying that it drew me to responses in some people's defense
But now I realize they need no defense and do perfectly well on their own .
That it is not as nasty as I first thought and each of v you are having fun in your own ways.
Did take me a while to get it

How much do you think the buyer would have paid for an identical copy of that painting?

It would have had the same content.

I, personally evaluate all and any piece of art on it's merit without considering the name attached to it.

i wouldn't hang that on my wall if you paid me, but I totally get that others would, and not just because of who painted it.
