I volunteer at a regional gallery and get to meet some wonderful, weird and wacky people.
But the ones that get up my goat are the ones who say "That looks like something a 5 year old would do." and expect me to agree with them.
And whilst we have a lot of community exhibitions that are amateurish enough (so perhaps the comment may be fair enough), the comment is usually reserved for iconic artists in major travelling exhibitions who are extremely well known.
Does anyone here like abstract art? And if you really hate it, why?

rabbit, mock all you like, but you remembered the Duchamp...which is ironic, considering it was made by Duchamp as part of his
readymade series, to provoke thinking about what is art? and why do we value it?
Of all the artworks you remember and chose to single out...
I dont believe in coincidences...

FYI...
One of the rules that artists must agree to when entering a painting for the Archibald is that the work has been painted from sittings. Therefore, none of the paintings can be painted from photos, the artist must meet with the subject. Even if its only for preliminary studies...

@poddster wrote:REB, the artistry is in convincing of someone that a load of codswallop has actually got worth, and there are a lot who will swallow anything that is fed to them so as not to admit that they don't have a clue of what the 'Artist" is on about. The "Artist" meanwhile laughs all the way to fame and fortune at the expense of the gullible believers 🙂
haha
You might find that rabbit is pulling your leg with his particular choice of artist and artwork...
and there you go again with your quotation marks..
Priceless

Close, but not quite.
It is Forkedifinowhathaforkitisism. It is a new concept that will immediately be accepted by all the forkedifiknowists.
