Abstract Art - why talk about it if you don't get it.

I volunteer at a regional gallery and get to meet some wonderful, weird and wacky people.

But the ones that get up my goat are the ones who say "That looks like something a 5 year old would do." and expect me to agree with them.

And whilst we have a lot of community exhibitions that are amateurish enough (so perhaps the comment may be fair enough), the comment is usually reserved for iconic artists in major travelling exhibitions who are extremely well known.

Does anyone here like abstract art? And if you really hate it, why?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. Those who consider whatever I create as art may call me an artist, it is not up tp me to say.

I have presented a creation for your criticism and you are at liberty to judge it as you may 🙂

                     She is not a professional painter, but won 1st prize in the Show.

That's lovely Erica.  

This is digital art.  Something I'm not particularly fond of but I love it.  A beautiful photo and great artistry. I don't know the artist so I will check that out.

Liking or disliking ART is the point. Music evokes the same responses. 

I have a degree in art.. tada... lol. That means that I took "advanced" college classes from teachers who helped guide my talent. People with Zero education in art can be briilliant artists. 

I volunteered at my kids school for 7 years as an art docent. The one thing I always said to the kids was this: Nobody can draw like you, your talent is unique to you. We learn to tie our shoes, read, write, and do math. My job is to give you the tools to make your unique style a little easier to produce, what you imagine. I can teach you perspective, color combiniations, and a few other things about art. However, your art will always be an expression of how you feel. 

I recently found out that one of my former "students" is an artist. A really good artist... making a good living. That makes me feel really good.

Re:The dog picture is made with love. I know, just by looking at that picture that your daughter loved, and misses her dog. It touches my heart when I see something like that. 

Without people hatein' on Pollock, his stuff would just fade into the past. 

So, bring on the pfffts, and huhs, 'cuz that is often the point of art. I'm very comfortable looking at some art, and stating that I just don't like it. I don't really like country music either.

Yes he certaily had talent but I think if he had lived he probably would have muted his colours a bit. His work screams the torture his mind was going through.

The more tuition he got and the more certain of his work he would have been a very talented artist. I think his work will fetch big money in the future.
