COOL bars and cafes, a cultured atmosphere and an energetic arts scene: it's no wonder tastemakers reckon Adelaide is the place to be in 2015.
OFTEN derided as boring by its larger east coast siblings, Adelaide is the only Australian city to make The New York Times' list of 52 places to visit in 2015.
Ranked number 24 on the list, Adelaide wins praise for its arts festivals, cultured atmosphere and vibrant food scene, with nods to the city's organic produce market and the revamped Adelaide Oval.
"Sure, Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is close to both wine country and beaches," the article says.
"But there are more reasons to stay in the city, thanks largely to an energetic arts scene ... and robust dining scene."
Fashion capital Milan tops the Times' list, ahead of Cuba and Philadelphia.
Previous winners include Sri Lanka, Rio de Janeiro and Estonian capital Tallinn.
Of course, Adelaidians don't need this sort of affirmation to realise that they are living in the best city in Australia.

You can imagine what the twins experience in school then. They are from Scotland. They moved there when they were 4, and they are now 9. They sound more and more Ozzie every day.

My step-daughter is in West Beach. I loved it there, but the women looked at me as if I was from Mars. They were not too keen on an American, and a Scotsman picking up his twin Grand-daughters from school.
lol probably thought you were speaking a foreign language. My wife is Canadian, I have seen what she has to experience. People ask her to repeat things over and over, then they ask her if she is Irish

A BIG tourist ad imo.
South Australia has lost a lot of manufacturing plants/businesses of late.....and more to come.
Just an AD to boost tourism I reckon.
I liked most things about Adelaide and outer suburbs when I visited many years ago....the city was clean and so easy to traverse. Attractive buildings many made from 'blue stone'.
Hahndorf.....up in the hills had the most amazing 'eats' places and delicious German cakes and pastries.
One of the few places that offered refunds on empty drink bottles!
Can get stinking hot in Summer.
Beaches were pretty 'ordinary' compared to our beaches and beautiful soft, clean sands over here in WA.
The two beaches I went to near Adelaide had gritty and coarse 'dirty' black beach sand. Volcanic based I think.

I would defy the average American to locate Adelaide on a map (or even South Australia or Australia for that matter)
I'm an average American and I know exactly where Australia is on a map.
It's that big kangaroo-shaped blob right next to China.

Not only do I know where it is on a map, I've been there. I've been to Sydney also.
