COOL bars and cafes, a cultured atmosphere and an energetic arts scene: it's no wonder tastemakers reckon Adelaide is the place to be in 2015.
OFTEN derided as boring by its larger east coast siblings, Adelaide is the only Australian city to make The New York Times' list of 52 places to visit in 2015.
Ranked number 24 on the list, Adelaide wins praise for its arts festivals, cultured atmosphere and vibrant food scene, with nods to the city's organic produce market and the revamped Adelaide Oval.
"Sure, Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, is close to both wine country and beaches," the article says.
"But there are more reasons to stay in the city, thanks largely to an energetic arts scene ... and robust dining scene."
Fashion capital Milan tops the Times' list, ahead of Cuba and Philadelphia.
Previous winners include Sri Lanka, Rio de Janeiro and Estonian capital Tallinn.
Of course, Adelaidians don't need this sort of affirmation to realise that they are living in the best city in Australia.

Since when have Cuba and Sri Lanka been cities?

And to expand on the NY Times article, may I add the following positives:
Cooper's Ale, Fritz, great climate, WOMAD, beaches you can drive on, great wines, minimal traffic, no toll roads, a two-way expressway, trams, only one IKEA store, centrally located airport, frog cakes, pie floaters, bogan motor race, nice architecture, lots of pubs, the Adelaide Hills, best oysters in the land, Cooper's Stout and much much more.
Negatives:

HAHAHAHAH, Richo
My step-daughter is in West Beach. I loved it there, but the women looked at me as if I was from Mars. They were not too keen on an American, and a Scotsman picking up his twin Grand-daughters from school.

ADELAIDE - Ben Folds
Adelaide
On a plane
Far from the united states
Of LA
Dropping in from outer space
Takes a day
Now I see the Bogans
At the motor race
Here you know the world could turn
Or crash and burn
And you would never know it
Going where the air is clear
There's better beer in Adelaide
Charlie L. Smith's forty
Someone spiked my rice
The rest, history
Now I am a fixture down
Rundle Mall
Watching as the locals pass
Silver balls
I can see their eyes are round
They're pointed down
They scan the spanning sidewalks
Learning that there is no hurry
Fuss or worry
Adelaide

lol probably thought you were speaking a foreign language. My wife is Canadian, I have seen what she has to experience. People ask her to repeat things over and over, then they ask her if she is Irish
