Your credit file is free to access however this can take a long time.. ok.. not that long but it was long for me.
I paid the small fee and got it really fast.

As well as getting your credit file do you think you should ask the lender where he got his information from?
Do you have a really common name that could have been mistaken for someone else?

Lenders have access to your credit file Bump....he probably got it from Veda or one of the other companies that offer this service. All companies that offer credit will be subscribed to a Credit Reference provider....banks, shops, utilities providers, phone companies.
Just Google Credit Reference providers and you will come up with a number of options, some more expensive than others.
Ash, get a copy of your Credit Reference and check all the entries....if there is anything wrong it needs to be corrected or you could run into this problem again.

This happened to me a few years ago when applying for a new mobile phone. I enquired as to what it was and it turned out to not be mine, same name, same town, same birthdate but different middle names and address.
