Age is just a number in your mind.

Lately I have been reading so much about older peoples achievements. A 89y old lady winning swimming records for her age group. A 102y old lady teaching japanese. An older couple(can't remember their ages) walking around Australia. etc. etc.

www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/yearold-bodybuilder-sam-bryant-shows-age-is-a-state-of-mind/story-f...

One of my elderly neighbours walks every morning one kilometre to the local Swimming Pool, and then walks back again, and twice a week she helps in one of our OP Shops.

Here I am sitting on my backside, doing nothing constructive. Do you agree with this fellows ideology; Age is in your mind. ?

I should be ashamed of myself for always finding excuses not to get out of the house and smell the roses. It is either to hot, or to wet and windy, or to cold. What other excuses can I find?

Re: Age is just a number in your mind.

We of the more mature ilk, carry on about our aches and pains.

We listen to others talk of their aches and pains.

Then after a while of talking and listening about our aches and pains, we realise that our aches and pains are not quite as bad as before.

Re: Age is just a number in your mind.

Can I throw a positive into the disucssion?

Most of us on this thread were around when there weren't any computers, electric typewriters had just been invented and a calculator was a heavy machine with a long paper roll.

Now look at us.

We have all conquered the computer, are comfortable with the internet, otherwise you wouldn't be posting here.

Unlike our junior friends, we can spell without a spell check, can add up quickly mentally without a calculator.

If the electricity goes off at the supermarket we can still add up the cost of our groceries mentally and work out our change manually.

We can cook without neediing electronic cook books or tv chefs to tell us how to do it

We can still hand write, amazingly we can undertake that disappearing art of curvasive writing.

We can still go to our old hand written love letters without worrying that some computer bug is going to wipe all of our email letters at the drop of a hat.

Majority of us do not subscribe to the modern PC nonsense and can still laugh at ourselves and appreciate when some male practices the ancient art of flirting without getting our knickers in a knot.

I reckon that it is all good.

Thank you all for participating in this discussion. It is interesting how different everyone sees old age.

Like some here said, age is no barrier to illness or disabilities, but old age is to be apreciated no matter what your health problems are.

Don't think about what you can not do, think about what you are capable of doing and all the things you enjoy in life. Can you still cook a lovely meal? Can you sew on a loose button? Can you write a letter to a friend? Can you still laugh at a joke or smile at some heartwarming picture? Think about all the blessings, like loving family, great and loyal friends, good music that makes you sing or at least hum to a tune. See the beauty of nature and cherish every sound of a bird and the rustling leaves in the wind. Think about things that make you smile.

You can not walk far, or even think about joining a gym. Don't worry, one can stretch and bend and twirl joints even when sitting down or standing up and holding on to the back of a chair or you can sway to some lovely music and smile.

Age is something to be grateful for and enjoy to the best of our ability. Like our lovely She Ele said, with age comes wisdom and that's when we find all the wrinkles in everydays life.

Re: Age is just a number in your mind.

Here here Nicnacs.

You seem like one of lifes true gems Lind.  I have loved reading this thread. Kudos to everyone really for such interesting insight.

I think age is in the mind. And I think once you stop appreciating the simple things in life (like those things you mentioned, ie: "or you can just sway to some lovely music and smile") then you are kinda missing the point imo. Each and every one of us is so lucky to be on this earth.

Think of the odds, and the fact that it's YOU (as in anyone reading this) out of all those little spermies and eggs YOU were created it really is a miracle to be pondered and appreciated.

Oh and I'm 36

Re: Age is just a number in your mind.

Aging sux.

I am still the same person in my head that I have always been, a little less tolerant of idiots, a little more forgiving of idiots, but basically the same person I have always been.

However, someone has switched bodies on me. I don't own these aching knees, or this extra 15 kg's of blubber, I'd really like the hair on my head to stop falling out and some regrowth would be nice. I can't read anything unless I have my cokebottle glasses on, I'm pretty sure hubby mumbles stuff about me under his breath but I can no longer hear it, and I'm not one bit impressed with these darn whiskers on my chin.

As for sex, pffft, he's got two hands, I need my beauty sleep

Oh crikey, Crikey.  What are we in for in the future?

Sometimes following menopause, comes the ease to say what's on your mind without fear or favour.

Can't wait for you to get there!!!!!
