The financial assesment that needs to be filled in for aged care is repetitious. I have filled this in on behalf of my parents and even I was struggling. Imagine a much older person tryngt to complete such a form. It asks a number of times the same question, are you receiving a payment from the dept of human services? How many times do you need to answer this in the one form? Im half expecting the form to come back advising it was filled in incorrectly, wonder if anyone else has had this issue?
Also the transition care places, well some of them are just appalling. The government needs to sink some money into these places, talk about depressing.
You're completely right & it reminded me of an issue we had 3 years back.
My brother was in palliative care with terminal brain cancer. We were told that a person could only stay there a max of 3 months & then would have to go to a transition home/nursing home, but that was an issue as my brother was under 60 & younger people can't go to a nursing home without special permission. (Which brings up another issue-why no special care homes for those under 60 or without dementia?)
Permission was given but I think he was asked to fill out a 60 page document.
When someone has 3 brain tumours as my brother did, their whole brain process/body is affected. He could barely move, was not speaking much, unable to think clearly so it was up to us to try to fill it out.
You really had to be at the top of your game to do it all properly & I imagine most of those going into aged care would have trouble. We had trouble as we didn't know the answer to every question.
As it turned out, my brother died before we completed it but the entire issue of aged care/palliative care/high need care regulations etc needs a good looking at. The staff at the palliative care were excellent but even the social worker there said there was nothing in place for younger people who needed a high level of care & it was a problem.
