An interesting contrast in styles [warning, political]

We received two letters in the mail today.  One was addressed to Mr M Xxx & Mrs J Xxx the other to Mxxx & Jxxx Xxx.  Guess which was from the local Liberal candidate and which from Labor?

I suppose it's natural for conservatives to think that two people with the same last name, living at the same address, must be married. We could be brother and sister or parent and child for all they know.

Wouldn't the letters be addressed according to how we fill in the Australian Electoral Commission's registration form?

Both Parties appear to be saving mailing costs with same surnames receiving the one (1) letter at the address.

But, but, but Lurker, theyve got to be seen to be doing something...and wheres Libs arts policy?

Huh? Anyone seen it, looked high, looked low...nup nothing there...

But lets all enjoy all the art festivals and Sydney Biennale, Adelaide Biennale, MOFO and Australian films and TV and Australian books and Australian music..lets just expect the makers of these NOT to live in Australia anymore cause they cant afford to earn a living wage..

SO depressing to be paid last, or asked to constantly donate work or time for free.

To be told 'think of the exposure'... 'yep, thats what I will tell my electricity company- you dont need payment! I will tell everyone I know about you, Think of the exposure!'

Was asked today to 'donate' my paltry copyright fee to a Museum..Hello?! without artists, you wouldnt have a Museum to be employed and earn your cushy $65,000 a year..I so wanted to ask- Do you work for free?

Does my electrician work for free? No

Does my bank manager work for free? No

Does my Council give me a discount for my rates, for doing zero in my neighbourhood? No

Does my Local Member work for free? Hell No

But apparently, artists, film makers, designers, writers, musicians..in this country, we work for free.

Apparently.

In this particular instance they are both okay.  But, if we had a different relationship, for example one of the ones I mentioned above, it would not be okay.

Its about assumptions.

No assumptions lurker.....they get your name and address from the Electoral Roll and you have to provide your full name, address and whether you are Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, Dr etc or other (not sure what "other" might be).

has anyone noticed that the postal vote forms they sent are return address to party offices, not the AEC... I find that a bit odd
