Chuk.......the first 10 amendments are modifications to the original Constitution, although, to be truthful, they are more like additions. The rest are actual changes to the Constitution. An amendment to the Constitution requires either a 2/3 majority of Congress, or a 2/3 majority of state legislators. Even in Oregon, a 2/3 majority would be hard to come by, and in the deep red states, a virtual impossibility. Congress is so fearful of the NRA, a 2/3 majority to amend the 2nd will happen when pigs fly.
I proposed to my Senator that a law requiring trigger locks on ALL firearms be a requirement. That way, should a weapon be stolen, it would be useless. I received a form letter thanking me for my concern in return.

Band,
Here's something that was world news... But you didn't see one post about it here. Something positive about 3 Americans..
I'm sure you heard/read about this... I'm sure many of you have. About the 3 young American men on a France train that foiled a terrorist from most likely committing a mass killing....
The man had several weapons in his luggage, including a Kalashnikov, an automatic pistol and razor blades....... Not in the U.S.....
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/21/amsterdam-paris-train-gunman-france
But... Do you ever post something like this... being your an "American"... No! It's always about the bad news here.... Never have I seen you post anything positive, Hey... you grew up in OZ.. Now you're benefitting from living here. In a very nice state, Oregon.
Just sayin'.... How about something nice once in a while... It's not all bad here. We have our problems... With shootings.... I agree. But there's so much more.... so much positive that never lands here on this board......
And you post to me... About saying something positive, starting my own thread... Aren't you an American too now?
I'm not defending guns in the wrong hands...I'm just tired of the rhetoric...
This was the point of my original post...... For all who read my post..

A tragedy and we are all sad for the families of the lost ones. We are also puzzled why somethings don't change after all the mass murders.
I am not criticizing the USA., in fact I love America and its people, kind, generous and sometimes naive which I find endearing.
The hollow words from Obama is getting tiring, he cares so much but does nothing about anything.

Those 3 young Americans and 1 Brit was headline news here in Australia for many days. We are all grateful to them and their bravery.
They deserve all the accolades that they got, all the medals of honour and all other rewards. They are truly what America is all about.

I'm not Steve Decatur.........I don't believe in "My Country, Right or Wrong"... that thinking bred cretins like Bush. I love my country so much that I joined the service to defend her.........but I'm not going to turn a blind eye when it comes to the pimples on her fair complexion.
Keep in mind, Chris Mintz..........he was a student at UCC yesterday.......he is also a former army vet who charged the shooter, taking a total of seven bullets. That is quite possibly seven more students who didn't die yesterday. Also keep in mind that there was at least one armed veteran on campus, who decided it would be "too confusing" for law enforcement if he were at the scene, so he sat passively by while his classmates died. So much for the right-wing myth that, "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun"..........

and yet your left wing lame duck president does nothing. He's not backward in coming forward to exercise his "executive powers" when its a legacy he wants to leave behind.
You want to bring politics into a tragedy expect to get a non partisan response.
