Hello, everyone. I'd like to remind you that the board usage policy prohibits interpersonal dispute. Please be courteous to each other. Thanks. ๐

Sorry Gewens, but I was actually referring to difference of opinion on matters under discussion, not personal disputes.

You asked, why not use the word, terrorism? As in, does it qualify?
well. No legitimate media outlet was using the word to describe the incident at the time this thread was created.
as of now, the official spokeman on this matter, for the President, has not labelled it as terrorism.
That is in addition to my reasoning in previous posts (the emotional context, and response, to a word).

As I explained, the title of my OP was my opinion, and I used the link to show why I held that opinion.(I concede it might have been better if I had put a question mark after it.)
Have any legitimate media outlets called the incident an act of terrorism in the time since I voiced that opinion?. I understand the local sheriff has been reported as doing so.

I mentioned "at the time" as that was relevant to my response to the thread. When first seen.
I haven't seen any change to that media position, no. The media are not labelling it as such.
If you had put a question mark, that would have been better, yes, if that is what was actually meant. A question mark, changes the meaning. A question mark changes it from a fact, to a question. That opens up a different interpretation of the same words to the reader.
The use of the words terrorism, terrorist, etc. in the media have been linked to a subsequent rise in copycat acts. That will be a factor in why the media have guidelines for their use.

Putting a question mark after my title might have indcated that I was inviting others to offer their opinions, it wouldn't have been intended to indicate that I was unsure of my own opinion.
Can the Washington Post be called legitimate media?
And for those who don't understand it or haven't read beyond it, the headline is intended to be sarcastic.

That, is a link to a BLOG post. Satire, opinion. Not an article in the legitimate media, reporting the news, anymore than your thread is.
Which by the way...is also careful to NOT use your phrase...
grabbing at very short straws here, sorry. There is not one legitimate news article calling this an act of terrorism. That might change if it becomes one officially.

I hope everyone reads your link. It deserves to be read. It adds to this thread, and how you view other opinions.
