I bought a pile of stuff at Ikea yesterday using the self service checkout. It was a bit of a rush as they were about to close and my daughter wasn't feeling well and was fading before my eyes so I was a bit frazzled...
Anyway I was filing away the reciept this morning and it seemed too cheap for what I had bought. So I went through it and realised I missed paying for a huge mirror valued at $129. Not sure how.
I just called them to pay for it over the phone but they say I have to bring it back. WT...? That's a 20mins drive there, navigate my way through whilst trying to hold this heavy mirror, getting in the for their service area and then driving back.
What would you do?

It isn't. It is only a 20minute drive as I said.
But by the time I lug it out into the car, drive there, go get a trolley to lug it out of the car and into the store, find my way to the service desk, take my ticket, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, then pay them and then trolley it back to my car, drive home, lug it up the hill and then the stairs of my house - I estimate a 3 hour turnaround.
That's half my day gone lol!
Not sure if you have ever tried to return something at Ikea but it takes FOREVER.

I was able to pay over the phone and they delivered it. I think you just got a dud staff member Martini.
Yes I think so to. It is the weekend. The first guy I got couldn't understand what I wanted and I did ask to speak to someone in charge. But she sounded young and confused.
Anyway I will sort it tomorrow.

No but in your case I would've just shrugged it off, congratulated myself at the savings I'd made, and gone ahead installing the mirror.

I applaud your efforts martini!
Im sitting here trying to imagine how incredulous you were when the staff member said you needed to return to the store to pay for it- what a joke. She ought to be trying to continue to give you service, and processing your payment asap. Instead she expects you to return to the store, to pay for the mirror so they can make sure its not a more expensive one? Theres no chance Id be doing that.
Id be phoning, asking for the supervisor, explain what happened, and say 'I either pay for it now, or I dont. Your choice.'
Then I would bring up the behaviour of the staff member- she needs to be retrained. Most businesses would appreciate the heads up.
Good luck. At the very least you survived a trip to Ikea- no mean feat! lol

Not to mention that mirrors are breakable and there's a chance that at some stage during this little adventure you might drop the blody thing and smash it to smithereens.

Technically you're a thief. Martini is a bad ass.

I try. I really do lol!

it was your mistake, its up to you to rectify it - if they want you to take the mirror back in then suck it up and just do it.
