I bought a pile of stuff at Ikea yesterday using the self service checkout. It was a bit of a rush as they were about to close and my daughter wasn't feeling well and was fading before my eyes so I was a bit frazzled...
Anyway I was filing away the reciept this morning and it seemed too cheap for what I had bought. So I went through it and realised I missed paying for a huge mirror valued at $129. Not sure how.
I just called them to pay for it over the phone but they say I have to bring it back. WT...? That's a 20mins drive there, navigate my way through whilst trying to hold this heavy mirror, getting in the for their service area and then driving back.
What would you do?

Erica, I think that's a little OTT.
Why would you put yourself out even more, when they don't want
your money?
Who on earth complains when a store won't take your money for good taken?

I agree with you, Stawka, but seeing that Martini is so determined to pay for the mirror, she may as well shame the staff at the shop where she bought her things.

I'm determined but I don't think I will go too far out of my way.
I will call again tomorrow and speak to someone in charge. If they say I can't do it over the phone, then I won't be making a special trip in just because their system sucks.

You've got to wonder how much gets stolen (either accidently or on purpose) through self service pods.
If I managed to walk out with a 1.5 metre long mirror and no one noticed even though 2 staff were on 'security' that night and they have surveillance cameras at each register as well...

You'd better pay, martini,or you could find yourself holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy for years. 😄

my question, who's fault is it that the item did not ring up? was it an oversight on their part, the store, or did you have it hidden from view or hard to see and ring up? when you say huge mirror, i'm guessing they would have to had seen it. you determine whos at fault, if it's not you, then i recomend you not go out of your way to pay for it. you could always call back, talk to the top person there, manager, ect. offer to pay over the phone and make it clear that your not making a trip back there.

I find it really weird that a store would not accept such honesty. How many people would be honest like that , when they could get away scot free. I can't understand why the barcode isn't enough for them. But I certainly wouldn't be lugging the mirror back.
Neither would I shame them on FB but I would just report it to the Manager and let them take care of it, if they want you to have a free mirror so be it.

Wait a minute!! I just had a re-read.
Apparently they need to see the item to make sure that they put through the right one.
Unless they are worried I am trying to pay less for a more expensive one??
The swine think you're trying to pay for an inexpensive mirror?
So in your honesty, they think you're trying to rip them off?
What the?? Why would you even ring them in the first place??
Forget about paying for it. They're idiots.

Why is the nearest Ikea Store 3hrs away? I'm assuming you meant round trip? You live fairly central don't you?

I wish we had more Ikeas here. It would be a day trip for me to get there, have a look around and get home. I did buy a rug from them once over the phone. It was a different size to the one I already had.
I was able to pay over the phone and they delivered it. I think you just got a dud staff member Martini.
