Another boat yesterday with 39

It sank and those on board were rescued, somewhere near Christmas Island.

Just wanted to do my bit as the media won't tell us till Friday I suppose.

No, like hiding the facts from the public, he knows about the boat that went down yesterday, but doesn't want us to know, is this a police state? Does the military rule? Has there been a military coup?

don't we get told on friday's?

dunno, haven't really been following it all.

we should be told though, but I do think it should be by a planned release, not just a few facts strung together by a heap of subjection and innuendo etc and trumped up to sell papers.

I'm kind of over all the emotive rhetoric surrounding asylum seekers, it can't be good for them and how they are viewed by the wider community.

what we need to know is what your OP told us, maybe a few more details

a boat sank off Christmas Island (which means it never actually got here if you want to be technical and turn this political)

39 people on board,

all saved by Navy

then maybe

'undergoing medical treatment"

before being transferred to....

and whatever other facts are relevant to the fantastic news that 39 people's lives have been saved after their boat sank.

you know, facts - no need for all the over dramtized emotive stuff. no need for political stuff

I think people need to understand what the indonesions think, as said in this interview it is an international problem, well worth listening to this:

instead of the rubbish they read in a lot of australian media

yeah, but that's a different thing to the fact that a boat sank and 39 people were saved.

I don't know how Mr Abbott can stop the boats, well not all of them, but I think the procedures in place will eventually deter a fair few of them, so that's less lives at risk.

dunno really, for me the whole situation is a hard one..

I want the boats to be able to come - heck get yourself to safety however you can, but then there are the smugglers who take advantage of the desperation.

I just wish we could somehow go and collect them all and bring them here safely.

then there would be no need for the boats.

I'm not over it crikey, Abbott needs to be held account for his Lies and this is just one of many

Do you really think the indonesians want the boats back? They aren't going to be deterred in a hurry, watch the video, they basically think Abbott is stupid. Well that is my interpretation.

donna, he hasn't really lied yet. he's trying to stop the boats, he's putting in place things to try and intercept them and also to deter them, I guess it takes time, even if he does ever become 100% successful (which I doubt) It's not like he came on board and went "meh - I was just kidding, I didn't mean it, I'm not even going to try" maybe in another 2 years we can say he lied if he hasn't given a good effort iykwim

no one can physically stand in front of the boats and stop them

yeah, I know he seems to have some strange ideas of how to stop them, so maybe the answer is to deter them with things like the off shore processing etc, intercepting them.. but it will take time for the message to get through and for people to believe it.

cos then on the other hand you have people advocating for beneficial treatment over and above what is obligated (see today's locked thread) all this continues to make it more appealing for people to try to come. So he's not just trying to contend with the other countries, he's also got to contend with internal force as well. Ya gotta be a bit fair.

I don't know and I am not sure others do either, I started a thread the other day about it, and no one could say what they would do or what they thought should happen - how they thought we could stop the boats..

I don't want to get political, I'm just happy that there are 39 people who have been saved.

wish I knew how to stop them putting themselves in the situation in the first place.

Re: Another boat yesterday with 39

Donna, why does it matter if we aren't told until Friday? (is that what happens, we only get one media release about this a week?)

we just need to know the facts etc

does knowing today help you or those involved at all?

does it make a difference to their lives if we know today or in a few days time?

Isn't the important thing that they are safe and we were able to help with their rescue?

That is wierd because he stated he stopped them in 50 days and says that it was an election promise.

He said this at a Liberal  conference in Tasmania.

Oh dear, you better not go speaking on Tony's behalf without finding out what he has been saying.
