Another boat yesterday with 39

It sank and those on board were rescued, somewhere near Christmas Island.

Just wanted to do my bit as the media won't tell us till Friday I suppose.

Stop the boats?

Maybe stand up to countries whose illegal and inhumane activities so that their citizens do not need to flee to Australia?

Instead of turning upto the conferences in their countries, giving them gifts and buying them two patrol boats.....

That is a start.

Re: Another boat yesterday with 39

It looks like it is unsafe to tow boats if this can happen

we tried that in Afghanistan. But people didn't like that very much. People objected when our soldiers were killed. People demanded that our soldiers be bought home.

We attempted to stand up to the Afghanis, on their own turf, and people didn't like that very much.

I have a friend in the SAS who did two tours of Afghanistan and wanted to do more, but his country would not let him. One of my son's friends' father was also high up with the Army and he did the same.

They both went to stand up to the Afghanis. They both (along with many others) tried to help stabilize the Afghani govt and introduce a model that did not persecute it's citizens. They all tried to stand up to the afghanis and establish a kind and stable govt.

but the people "at home" who have no idea what it takes to stabilize another country demanded that "our soldiers be bought home"

So, if we don't like our soldiers going "there" how do you propose that we stand up to other countries? Wave a few policy documents in front of them? Maybe if we said "please", that might make them change their minds, eh?

I bet that's what we did wrong, we forgot to say "please".

Something in between economic sanctions and military actions?   What could it be?

We just have to ask them nicely meep, and above all, we must remember to say, "please".

That'll work.

As far as I know they are ok and all rescued by the navy.

Is this what Tony Abbott meant by stopping them? The only difference is we are not being told, it is disgusting.

Apparently communications are shut down so the details cannot be communicated.

Do you really want to know every time a boat is stopped ?

I think a weekly report is enough and you are being told but not on a daily basis as in the past. It became an obsession with the LP because they had little else to report that was positive.

I am sure Scott Morrison has other matters to look after as well as this problem and cannot spend time every single day informing us how many boats have been stopped.

Yes I agree but unforunately that is what parties in opposition do which is a shame because that is not being a productive opposition.

Labor is now doing exactly the same thing and is sickens me that when in opposition it appears that party must denigrate the party in power.
