Another day, another woman dies in a domestic murder

What's that? 18? 19 this year alone?

I can't fathom why the government (and society) isn't attacking this situation head on? Is it because these are women?

This one didn't even make front page news. The cricket win did.

Another day, another woman dies in a domestic murder

I ended up being housed in a motel for a few days. I was told this was what they did whenever there were no beds available at the refuge shelters and had a number of motels signed up.

I think thats what struck me as strange about that article. I didnt think you could just be turned away if you literally had nowhere else to go. They will usually put you up somewhere. I get the feeling she had been staying with her sister and as soon as they hear you're not literally on the street, they knock you back. I guess they have to because places are so limited.

We rang several different places for a few days in a row and realised as soon as we said she was staying with me, that was it, there was no help. Once she was living in a caravan park with the 4 kids they were fantastic and had her in a place literally 2 days before Christmas.

Going back to that first article though, I'm not sure the availabilty of beds at shelters had any bearing on her murder. By all accounts she kept agreeing to meet up with him and thats how he had her alone.

You know, now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure that I was asked if I could stay with either of my daughters. Its funny, so much of that time is very, very clear but other parts of that time is still a blur but coming back to me slowly. I guess extrem fear and stress can do that.

I just read another article about this poor young woman. She was definitely let down by the system and it is rather shameful that women still fall through the cracks. Her jerk of a husband killed her in the carpark at her place of work. Something needs to be done in regards to AVO/IVOs to provide greater safety to those who are meant to be protected. What exactly, I don't know, but a piece of paper does not stop these violent jerks from breaching it. I am fortunate that my ex is intelligent and has at least some integrity but that doubt and fear still linger in the back of my mind
