While I certainly agree with the second half of this statement, I am in disagreement with the first, as I'm quite certain that castration would cause severe disruption and interference with at least one of my normal bodily functions. 😉
It is not true that castration = removal of testis, will make the male necessarily impotent. Castratos were men who were castrated before puberty to keep their pure singing voices. If that worked they became stars and were much sought after as lovers by rich ladies because of their infertility.
I have seen dogs, castrated as pups, mating females; some breeders used to let them deliberately when they were not planning to breed the **bleep** that particular cycle.
At puberty there is a sudden short term increase of release of hormones manufactured in the testis, Castration if done before puberty will stop this, and that will result in delay in closing of growth plates making the individual taller,it, will also have effect on calcium being deposited in bones, which can cause problems in later life. Of-course, it stops developing secondary male characteristics like deepening of voice, facial hair and muscle development. But once the man is grown, and fully developed, he can function just fine with hormones from other glands.
Equivalent to removal of testis, would be removal of ovaries, not FGM.
