Can son get out of his rental contract as of tomorrow? Appreciate any eggspert advice on here pls.Rental Contract has been in place all this yr up to sometime in Dec. He is a 3rd yr uni student just about to start exams. He rents from a reputable R/E company up in Perth. Same property and adjoining for last 2 years-upmarket 'respectable area' etc, no probs.Has own room, lockable and share rest of house amenities-e.g bathrooms, kitchen, 2 fridges, laundry, living with other students and....recently non-students. My son rang a couple of days ago, bit 'upset' obvious damage from someone's unsuccessful attempt to 'jimmy' open his bedroom door. Lock undamaged and room not entered, nothing missing. R/E agent told etc.
My son is a sports science student. Clean living, no smoking, no alcohol, active in sport and training etc
Earlier today son rang more 'upset' ....and asked "Mum can I come home please?....I don't feel safe here..." Police were called as one of his housemate/fellow students had bricks thrown through their bedroom window while his housemate was out, two fridges ransacked (which contains all housemates foodstuffs) then on return to house son's housemate was attacked by the perpertrator who threw a chair at him and caused physical injury. My son only one home while all this was going on, poor kid.Turns out high quality drugs are involved and large sums of money owed. Police have placed a neighbour-about 30-40 yrs of age on a 'warning'!!?......housemate has 'disappeared'. Son wants out of there. He has texted R/E agent what is going on, that he is leaving 2moro as he does not feel safe. He has exams starting in 10 days. Plan to pick him and his belongings up first thing tomorrow and bring him back to Bunbury. 'Grandad' based in Perth (long way from son's uni, but trains and buses are good) has offered son a room for the 8 day block exam period in 10 days time.
What do I ask/say at Real Estate office when we hand keys in tomorrow pls?.....don't want to have to keep paying rent after tomorrow, as original contract was up until early/mid December, can't remember exact date in Dec.
Thanks all.

The owner needs to know, too. As soon as possible.

What a scary situation for him. Rotten drugs!
Perhaps he can stay at his grandfathers tonight and then he can sort out all of his belongings tomorrow.

Very tough for your son to have to deal with this shortly before exam period.. that's enough stress alone.

Thank you so much everyone. It is 1.45am here in Bunbury. Got back, round trip, with son and all belongings.....not to mention the 'quickest' spring clean (as is required when vacating) I've ever done in my whole freaking life. *freaking and life both very apt words here. I kid you not. The whole experience was very, very threatening and scary. 2 years ago, even 6 months ago this loc was a lovely, ambient place for anyone to reside in, quiet and ideal for a uni student......on arrival tonight got a big hug from a concerned looking son:).....he was concerned for me driving. Broken glass from adjacent room window being smashed earlier had been mostly cleaned up but crunched underfoot as climbed limestone steps to front door to residence. Window had been replaced by a window contractor too. Occupant to room still 'disappeared'. Back area where the violent attack had occurred was scattered with a variety of weaponry. Broken chairs, a 5kg weight, a headless golf club and a bloodstain.....awful. As both my son and I cleared his belongings and removed to place/pack into my waiting vehicle (which we locked each time we loaded it under several pairs of watchful/cagey eyes *shivers) it was obvious that both of us were being 'watched' and surveilled at close quarters. I was approached twice by a capped character in a shady 'hoodie' with hood pulled well over his face. As this person walked past me 3 times over an hour and a half he asked me on 2nd approach "Where's XXXX? ....is he still there in his room?..." I knew what was going on. He was directly asking me about the 'disappeared' housemate's whereabouts and to see if I was related to this person. So I made it quite clear that I did not know who he was talking about and that I was only there for my son.....to take him away from all the nonsense that had been going on and that we did not have anything to do with anything......My son told me that he had been approached earlier and asked similar questions by a different person. We were out of there in the next 15 minutes.
My goodness. Son told me when I saw him that he had been advised to vacate as soon as possible by the police for his own safety.
What the heck is this world coming to? This drug world stuff is a whole different thing. There appear to be rules with quite clear but severe consequences.....but no code of conduct that I am familiar with...... These people live by a different code and they do not seem to care who they hurt in their pursuit of what they want. It is a very dangerous and insidious world to be near even if one is not directly associated or engaged in this different world.
So we all did good my friends. All of us. Thank you so very much for all your support and advise. Much appreciated everyone.
Off again in a few hours to take other son up to Perth and back. Don't think I can sleep much feel quite ill actually.

Nearly forgot to mention, for those kind enough to offer links and organisations ref. rent contract etc.....the R/E agent has been great.....she has been very understanding in the circumstances and even apologized to my son. I think everything will be fine regards ending this rent contract early....as police were involved and a 'job number' would have been recorded for the call out/incident.

So, so glad and relieved you got him out safely. It is up to the RE to tell the owner everything now. Good luck with ending the lease.
