It was with a priest an enlightened one could have been Father Bob.
I can't find the link showing it but if you can it is a great interview.
His main point was what religion should we teach there are so many different ones practiced in Australia and it is a personal thing of choice in our multi cultural country.

Was it a repeat of this one? Bob Maguire is a one-off, unfortunately.

No I have not seen it, but it makes me furious that anybody would consider teaching religion to kids at our schools. That is something that parents should decide where and how their kids will be taught, or not taught. Most public schools do inform kids about the different religions and different special days for people of different cultures, and that is fine.

I like the idea of teaching the basics of religion and what the different denominations are about. It is a fantastic topic when done correctly. I do not agree with one religion being taught at the expense of all others.
My father always said that it be better to be taught a mainstream religion that get sucked into a cult type religion.

I think that non-indoctrination teaching of religions should be covered in secondary school but I believe that religion should be kept out of primary schools. I am referring to public schools.
My kids were given the choice to attend Religious Instruction classes and they chose not to. The students who did not attend ended up being sent to the library after parents complained about them being kept in the classroom while the RI took place.
The public school system was originally established as being secular NOT sectarian.

It is OK to be taught ABOUT religion but not an religion, as a part of being taught about other cultures. Lets say your kid (church of England) goes to school where most kids are Catholic, or Jewish or Muslim, would you be happy if the school would teach from perspective of the most prevalent religion? For argument sake, assume that the one school was the only one where your child could go without unacceptable travelling.
