What we'll need.
1. Land, maybe 1000 acres
2. A self proclaimed King or Queen
3. Lots and lots money for lawyers.
4. Our own currency.
5. A constitution.
Yes. It has already been done in Australia.
Check out: The Principality of Hutt River in Western Australia

I'll take one out of Bob's book.
Discuss....

Not to mention a detention centre for those caught trying to sneak across the border into Australia.
A good one exists in that hole called Woomera would suffice

it would be interesting if something was discovered on their land - ie oil, gold etc.
I wonder how they get on with Native Title?

I don't think Native Title would apply there because Hutt River is an absolute Monarchy and is Independent from Australia.
Here is an excerpt from their website:
The Principality of Hutt River (PHR) is an Independent Sovereign State having seceded from Australia on the Twenty First Day of April 1970 and is comparable in size to Hong Kong, though the Principality is larger in physical size than many countries such as Vatican, San Marino, Monaco, and Nauru to name but a few.
The Principality of Hutt River is situated within Western Australia and is about 75 square km in size, consisting of approx 7,486ha (18,500 acres) of mainly flat or undulating farmland, well covered in places with a wealth of shrubs and beautiful wildflowers. The economy is based upon agriculture, which includes the export of wildflowers as well as tourism.
The Principality is a constitutional, hereditary and democratic monarchy, with HRH Prince Leonard as the Sovereign and Head Of State and a Government is exercised, under the Sovereignty of the Prince, by a Minister of State, HRH Crown Prince Prince Ian, assisted by a Government consisting of as many Ministers, Vice Ministers and State Secretaries as necessary to lead the Country.
Whilst the existence of PHR as a Sovereign State was initially contested, for many years now it has been accepted and left in peace. With the same Head of State for 40+ years, the Principality is proud to have such leadership and therefore the Principality must be regarded as a very stable country.
Prince Leonard is a keen supporter of both the Arts and Conservation and has named parts of the Principality with such names as Lake Beginning, Mount Secession, Lake Serenity and Wild Boar Gorge. The main townsite, Nain, has been developed with buildings to provide basic facilities for tourists who visit the Province in their thousands each year, and with modest Government and Reception buildings as well as basic support for campers, inc a small ablutions block, campers kitchen and a small caravan parking area with Power also available.
Facilities include an Administration Building containing the Government Office and Post Office, a swimming pool and Tea Rooms/Function Centre and a charming Inter-Denominational Chapel as well as a small arcade housing the Memorabilia Dept. and Historical Society displays. A new Reception Office is also in operation and recent extensions to the Tea Rooms/Function Centre have now enabled that to cater for double it's previous capacity and includes a beautiful and very comfortable outdoor undercover area.
A new camping and caravan park area was established in time for the 2010 40th anniversary celebration weekend and it has created the ability to cope with larger scale visits during special occasions without cramping and a lovely, relaxed area is now available for all to enjoy the peace and tranquillity offered by a stay in the Principality.
While the local resident population is small, a large number of Overseas Citizenships have been issued to people around the globe.
The Principality also enjoys a good, active and widespread diplomatic representation throughout most of the developed world.

1. Land, maybe 1000 acres
I nominate Ohio, including all of lake Erie to the north and the Ohio river to the south from upstream in Pittsburg downstream to the Missisippi river. Need to keep the supply lines open, trade routes ect.
2. A self proclaimed King or Queen
no, not a king, queen, puppet president, dictator, prime minister. Just a panel of humans, a diverse group of representives, like a congress, voted for and elected on a 5 year basis, and a computer program to play the role of a president, making the final discisions. No bias, no favortisom.
3. Lots and lots money for lawyers.
Free market capitalism, attorneys would have to compete within that system.
4. Our own currency.
based mostly on gold and silver, no federal reserve and competing currencies to represent that gold and silver. paper, plastic, ect.
5. A constitution.
make it simple and easy to understand .. 1st, 2ed, and 4th amendments pretty much say it all in that respect. speech and expression, self defence, and being secure in your home, car, and person from unwarented search. if you look closely at the other 7 bill of rights, they are only vareations of those 3. Include 3 commandments also to be taught in the church thou shall not lie, steal, or cheat. again combining eliments of the others.. see?, simple.

Joanie, if a computer has, ultimately, the final decision making, then whoever programmed the computer is really in charge. They can program it to follow a set of rules that give advantage to them.

What I had in mind would be a program that allowed everyone's input, and using that, create a compromise solution that 1- didn't violate the outlined rights, in this case being the 1st, 2ed, and 4th,,,, 2- be workable given the materals, resorces, money, time and manpower available..... If need be, the code can be open sorce for all to see, transparency

Joanie, I see what you are saying.
Helen, yes, that's one thing I was thinking of. But more human control behind a machine 🙂
on 13-03-2015 07:11 PM
well, humans have had control up to this point, hows that working out for us?, maybe give a computer program a trial run.
I was looking for the youtube video but couldn't find it,, where there exists a computer program for theropy. A vertual phyciatrist, the idea behind it was that maybe those too embarased to go see a real person would download the program and use it.
Wouldn't it be something if such a computer program could solve the problems of the world?, be more effecient and cheaper to run than some massive buricratic government that drains more resorces than it's worth?

Joanie.
Just a thought - given this is Australia - just wondering - how you are going to transport - Ohio - to 'Downunder'.
